This is a newly created role to support our Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP), you will be reporting to the Managing Director (MD), DP World Sabah Sdn Bhd. and based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

In the role of Head of Operations, you will oversee the day-to-day operations management, facilities, and technical operations of SBCP. You will be responsible for leading the team to achieve productivity targets and operational efficiency. Develop and drive operational strategies, provide leadership to the team, ensuring safe, and cost-effective operations of SBCP. You will play a crucial role in facilitating the smooth flow of goods and ensuring the competitiveness of our ports and terminals in the global trade landscape.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure operational strategies, policies, procedures, objectives & targets are reviewed from time to time to ensure we are in the line with port users’ requirements and to maintain service levels acceptable by clients.
  • Manage the FEM (Facilities and Equipment department) operational costs and cost control measure in all Section / Units activities.
  • Facilitate the SBCP terminal development and expansion program through close collaboration and communications with the appointed government agencies, authorities, consultants and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain a dynamic, skillful, productive, ever-learning and highly motivated workforce, involving job-enhancement/re-design, empowerment, counselling, upskill/reskill trainings and create career development framework.
  • Maintain cordial relationships with clients and other service providers via effective communication channels and creating a personal touch value and listening to their feedback.
  • Maintain close rapport with relevant government authorities, ensuring that government bureaucracies are constantly reviewed and aligned to facilitate trade, shipping and port operational practices.
  • Optimize the use of resources, equipment, and labor to maximize the efficiency and productivity of port and terminal operations.
  • Involve with terminal development projects (e.g. yard expansion, berth extension and etc)
  • Partner and maintain effective relationships with Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd. functional heads to attain business and operational synergy and efficiency for SBCP.
  • Ensure profitability in all operational and business activities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and compliance with environmental and maritime laws. Work closely with the HSSE leadership and team to implement safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and incidents.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum diploma qualifications with proven 10 years in ports operations and people management experience.
  • Possesses technical and extensive knowledge of marine port operations and/or related logistics services and value-chains.
  • Effective verbal and written communications in English and interpersonal skills.
  • Results-driven, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Great consultative and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities, be organised, methodical and deal well under pressure.
