Job Description

  • Database server install, upgrade and maintenance in production, QA and development environments.
  • Monitor and tune database servers and databases to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Maintain security and integrity of Page Group systems and data.
  • Incident & Problem Management - take ownership of the database issue contributing to or causing the incident and follow through to resolution. Liaison with internal IT, business users and third parties. Ensure users are kept informed of progress.
  • Provide input into the planning of the data and wider IT infrastructure.
  • Database Design and Programming - provides advice on database physical and logical design and SQL Coding.
  • Provide technical support for production systems and to Application and Infrastructure support teams.
  • Ensure batch tasks are completed successfully with technical issues promptly resolved or forwarded to the relevant parties.
  • Data extraction, transformation and load (ETL.).
  • Comply with Change Control policy and provide advice on areas for improvement.
  • Comply with all relevant standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.


A follow the sun shift pattern is operated with the intent of providing coverage for business-critical systems during office hours in all regions. Depending upon the Hub and region, this could require an element of on-call work.Out-of-hours support may be required at weekends and other times for which paid overtime is available. Occasional overseas travel may also be necessary.

The Successful Applicant

Essential Technical Experience

  • 5+ years industry experience in an Oracle, Sybase or MS SQL Server DBA role supporting both production and development environments (versions 2000, 2005, 2008, 2012 & 2014).
  • Thorough understanding of database design and administration.
  • Experience of Oracle, SQL Server (& Sybase) administration, maintenance.
  • SQL / T-SQL scripting, including stored procedures / scheduled tasks, triggers functions and querying of the system catalogue.
  • SQL performance optimisation, including database physical and logical design, T-SQL optimisation and index tuning.
  • Database server monitoring using Windows Performance Monitor, SCOM, SQL Profiler and other tools.
  • SQL Server Agent job creation and scheduling.
  • Log Shipping and Replication.
  • Familiarity with Data Warehousing methodologies and technologies.
  • Version and Change control.
  • Incident, problem, availability and capacity management.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server architecture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • High quality documentation.


What You Will Bring

  • Fluency in English and an additional language is a plus (Mandarin, Bahasa,… etc.)
  • Ideally previous experience in Shared Services, and XXXX activities.
  • Educated to degree-level or equivalent.
  • Self-motivated but able to operate within a team environment to deliver a professional support service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and confidently to all levels of user within the organization.
  • Experience of working in ITIL-aligned environments, particularly change/incident/problem/knowledge management.
  • Experience of supplier relationship management and working with external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve incidents/problems as well as organising and participating in a continual service review process.
  • Enthusiastic and flexible to adapt to changing demands in the nature of the workload individually and in the team - e.g. as more projects come on stream there will be a requirement to be involved in these while still being able to deliver on BAU work quickly and efficiently.
  • Be able to prioritise a high workload effectively to deliver on multiple BAU and Project responsibilities concurrently while consistently delivering within agreed deadlines.
  • Prepared to work occasional long hours and weekends with little notice.
  • Reliable and responsible attitude and understanding of the importance of the job - with particular regard to confidentiality, data integrity, security and disaster recovery.
  • Direct experience of working in a global team and proven ability to address issues and challenges associated with global working, varied time zone and geographical distance.
