Overview:

We are partnering with a leading renewable energy company to help them establish a team in Malaysia focused on developing solar energy projects across utility-scale, commercial & industrial (C&I), and rooftop segments. Our client is committed to expanding clean energy solutions that drive sustainability and growth. They are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead their efforts in land acquisition and project development for solar energy.

Position Summary:

As the Business Development Manager, you will play a key role in expanding our client's solar energy footprint in Malaysia. With 3-10 years of experience in the solar sector and a strong background in land acquisition, particularly for utility-scale, C&I, or rooftop projects, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and securing land and site opportunities. This role requires strategic planning, effective negotiation, and relationship management to ensure successful project development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our client to identify and evaluate potential land and site opportunities for utility-scale, C&I, and rooftop solar projects in Malaysia.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with landowners, business owners, government agencies, local authorities, and other key stakeholders to facilitate project development.
  • Conduct site assessments, due diligence, and feasibility studies to ensure the suitability of sites for solar development across various segments (utility, C&I, and rooftop).
  • Lead negotiations for land leases, site acquisitions, and agreements, ensuring alignment with project goals and compliance with local regulations and policies.
  • Work closely with our client’s internal teams, including engineering, legal, and finance, to support the successful execution of solar projects and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and stay updated on regulatory, environmental, and policy changes affecting land acquisition and solar project development in Malaysia.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies to expand our client’s solar portfolio in the region, targeting utility, C&I, and rooftop segments.
  • Prepare and present detailed proposals, business cases, and reports to our client’s senior management and stakeholders, outlining potential opportunities and project progress.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 3-10 years of experience in business development within the solar industry, with a focus on land acquisition and project development for utility-scale, C&I, or rooftop solar projects.
  • Strong knowledge of the solar energy sector in Malaysia, including regulatory, environmental, and market dynamics.
  • Proven track record in land and site acquisition for solar projects, with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within utility-scale, C&I, and rooftop segments.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Willingness to travel across Malaysia to secure land and site opportunities and engage with key stakeholders.
