OVERALL SCOPE OF JOB DESRIPTION

To ensure the efficient and economic operation of the Engineering Department in support of all other operating Departments, supplying services as required to the entire operation, and maintaining equipment, building, and grounds in optimum condition.

Operational Responsibilities

  • To supervise closely all engineering personnel in the performance of their duties
  • To delegate duties and responsibilities, as required, to the Assistant Engineer
  • To develop and implement a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance Program for all equipment in the hotel, including kitchen and laundry
  • To coordinate and, if so requested, supervise special projects and employment of outside contractors
  • To establish a well-organized Engineering Store and keep close control on consumption of material, stores, and inventory control
  • To implement a comprehensive elevator emergency procedure and initiate employee training on emergency release procedures with the elevator manufacturer’s agent
  • To inspect the entire building with particular attention on defective or deficient life safety features and to observe closely the condition of all operating equipment. Specific attention must be placed on not omit areas of difficult access
  • To advise management on all matters of potential improvement to the operation
  • To assist the engineering stores with suggestions for the most economic purchase of parts and consumables and to write clear and concise purchase requests for such items
  • To ensure that all operational departments are constantly provided with all services, utilities, and equipment maintenance to enable them to perform their functions effectively
  • To coordinate closely with the heads of department in order to establish good cooperation and job performances in order of the most effective priorities

Product

  • To assume full charge of building maintenance and guestroom and public area rehabilitation
  • To establish a regular planned guestroom servicing program

General

  • To ensure that life safety standards throughout the entire hotel are, at all times, commensurate with Datai Standards or local standards, whichever are the greater, thus fully safeguarding guests and employees against loss of life or property as well as injury
  • To control and monitor closely all utility consumption, and to ensure optimum energy usage by all departments in the Hotel
  • To observed energy efficiency of all equipment, forwarding to management suggestions for replacement of energy inefficient equipment and to report to management all wastage of energy
  • To ensure the hotel minimizes its effect on the environment through energy control and other good environmental practices
  • To ensure that all company policies and procedures, particularly those related to life safety, are being strictly observed by the employees of all departments at all times
  • To ensure that all local building, fire, and other applicable codes are enforced and observed at all times
  • To be fully responsible for the implementation of all company Life Safety procedures
  • To assume overall responsibility for the perfect functional condition of all alarm systems and firefighting equipment

Personnel and Training Responsibilities

  • To ensure that all employees report for duty punctually
  • To ensure that all employees wear the correct uniform and name badge at all times
  • To create an efficient and professional team of employees
  • To implement a department training program ensuring the necessary skills of all employees to perform their duties with maximum efficiency
  • To ensure that all employees are fully familiar with and have a complete understanding of Hotel's policies relating to Fire, Safety, Hygiene, and Health and that these policies are being strictly adhered to
  • To select and recruit, in conjunction with the Human Resources Department, suitable employees for the operation
  • To implement and carry out a comprehensive training program within the department

Administrative Responsibilities

  • To be fully in charge and responsible for the smooth function of the Department’s administration and maintenance of an efficient filling system
  • To make sure that all documents related to the operation of the department are being kept up to date and that all records are correctly maintained and files
