Job Description

This role is required to assist the Chief Underwriting Officer on the management and underwriting function of Property and Casualty renewal portfolio within Underwriting Centre and lead business retention team on the renewal follow up with internal and external customers.

  • Business Acumen – Accountable for profit and growth of UC Commercial Lines including analyze trends and communicate issues and opportunities to all stakeholders and execution of operational strategies to ensure continuous improvement of service level and quality
  • Targets – Ensure renewal review completed within the timeline set, achieve retention performance / underwriting target and manage the commercial lines underwriting profitability, administration and effective renewal follow up with targeted agents including operation of the P&C renewal portfolio within UC
  • Portfolio Management – Assess and manage the account portfolio performance on underwriting referrals as well as continuous review and enhancements of underwriting processes and procedures. This includes system enhancements support to Line of Business to perform UAT as and when required.
  • Relationship Building – Work closely with all stakeholders through frequent communication and constructive collaboration including regular meetings with distribution channels and line of business in achieving the strategic goal and plan for the year.
  • Operational Efficiency and Service Standard – Ensure service standard level agreed with distribution channels and line of business are met (including renewal re-quote, enquiry related to renewals, renewal follow up and instruction to issue renewal policies ) and manage the workload and provide solutions to issues/ problems that may impact renewal performance.
  • Reporting and Data Quality Management – Complete all UC reports on timely basis for internal and external and ensure the accuracy of data of the reports and statistics.
  • Leadership and Team Development - Lead, motivate, provide technical advice and coach direct report(s) in achieving agreed goal and target set for the year, development of best talents and common underwriting philosophy/cultures.
  • Compliance – Ensure full compliance of internal and external Guidelines including Legal and Compliance, Risk Management Enterprise, BNM and PIAM.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Skills

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good Technical Underwriting Knowledge in Commercial Lines of Business
  • P & L expertise and strong understanding of financial figures and underwriting principles
  • Good Interpersonal Communication Skill including negotiation and networking
  • Capable to interact with internal and external customers including agents, brokers or corporate client
  • Good in time management and achieve the standard service level agreement
  • Result oriented and possess strong analytical skills and problem solving
  • Business acumen and proficient in general insurance including the policy wording interpretation
  • Computer literate especially MS Office

Experience

  • More than 8 years relevant experience in the class of business

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in any discipline, preferably diploma/Associate in Insurance qualifications (ACII/AMII)
