As a Junior Cook on our river cruise, you will support the culinary team in preparing and presenting high-quality dishes for our guests. Working under the direction of senior kitchen staff, you will help ensure that all meals are prepared according to our recipes and standards, while maintaining a clean and organized galley.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation and cooking of ingredients and dishes, including chopping vegetables, preparing sauces, and cooking proteins, following established recipes and procedures
- Cooking and Presentation: Ensure that dishes are cooked to the highest standards and presented attractively. Adhere to portion controls and plating guidelines to ensure consistency and quality
- Galley Hygiene: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the galley. Follow all food safety and sanitation protocols, including proper storage of ingredients and thorough cleaning of kitchen equipment
- Stock Management: Assist with inventory control and the receipt of food supplies. Monitor stock levels and inform senior staff of any shortages or issues with supplies
- Guest Service: Support the kitchen team in meeting guests' dietary preferences and special requests. Ensure timely and efficient preparation of meals to meet service schedules
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other kitchen staff, including chefs and stewards, to ensure smooth operation and communication within the galley
- Experience: Prior experience in a professional kitchen is preferred, but not required. Experience in a cruise ship or similar environment is a plus
- Skills: Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and food safety practices. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Attributes: Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions. Positive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt
