JOB PURPOSE:

  • Support the Chief Executive on the management of the Academic functions of ALAM to ensure strategic goals and objectives of ALAM are effectively achieved.
  • Develop, design, and implement comprehensive Academic Development Plan and Policies that encompasses all aspects of the institution's academic and operational excellence.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and oversee the academic quality assurance systems to ensure that the highest standards in learning, teaching and research are continuously met.
  • Manage and monitor the performance of the Deans of Faculties and Head of Centres to maintain the quality of the academics of ALAM.
  • Facilitate engagements and develop partnerships with relevant industries and other higher learning education centres and/or institutions, both locally and internationally, to keep up to date on the latest best practices.
  • Rollout innovative revenue generation strategies, securing and leveraging funding to facilitate the growth and long-term viability of the Institution.
  • Lead and plan internalization and collaborative engagements and activities for students to develop a more enriching learning experience.
  • Lead and develop academicians to attain elevated competencies, with the aim of establishing a succession lineup to ensure seamless continuity and sustainable excellence.
  • Direct, design, manage, and supervise the transfer of knowledge initiatives/activities and community services among the academicians to empower the academicians with the best practices and knowledge.
  • Lead, motivate and inspire academic and non-academic staff as well as students and all other stakeholders to work toward the vision and mission of the Institution to advance learning and enhance talent.
  • Adherence to and compliance with the laws, statutes, ordinances, and regulations governing Academic Institution's.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant working experience including at least 10 years in a Senior Management position within the education industry.
  • Solid understanding and experience of outcome-based education, online learning/teaching pedagogy, and research development tools, and processes.
  • Excellent entrepreneurial and leadership skills with strong financial management, and team leadership skills in an academic setting. Clear understanding of the social, economic, and political implications of education.
  • Proven skills in liaising with academic sponsors or institutions and strategic management and coordination of academic and practical activities.
  • Demonstrated success in program development and delivery, implementation, management, and assessment of graduate/post graduate programs.
  • Experience with key roles in industry committees or associations and membership in the institution’s governing body would be an asset.
  • Ability to secure research and development grants, effectively commercialize research outcomes and foster innovation is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience playing a key role in upgrading an institution from a college to a university will be added value.
  • Preferably with maritime education and training background.
  • (PhD) in Maritime Studies, Engineering, Education, Business Administration, or Finance.
  • At least ten (10) years of leadership experience in an academic institution (or relevant industry), with not less than five (5) years of experience in the maritime industry.
