JOB SUMMARY

Support the Shariah Advisory team in providing advice on the application of Shariah principles in relation to the EPF’s Shariah-compliant investment and the operations of EPF Simpanan Shariah (Shariah account). The advisory services rendered shall be guided by the EPF’s Shariah policies and the decisions of the EPF’s Shariah Advisory Committee in line with the EPF’s Shariah Governance Framework.

JOB DESCRIPTION

A. Assisting in Shariah advisory services related to:

  • Structuring Shariah-compliant investments, particularly in real estate investments, and financing (fixed income investment) using Shariah-compliant concepts and instruments;
  • Implementation of Shariah policies related to the operations of Simpanan Shariah (Shariah savings);
  • Structuring non-investment Shariah-compliant products to be offered to the EPF members based on relevant Shariah concepts; and
  • Restructuring Shariah non-compliant investments into Shariah-compliant investments.

B. Conducting Shariah screening activities related to the Shariah status of new and existing Shariah-compliant investments (particularly real estate investments) including income from such investments;

C. Preparing Shariah assessment and advice related to Shariah-compliant proposals including salient terms and conditions and legal documentation.

D. Assisting in obtaining Shariah approval by ensuring adherence to EPF’s Shariah policies, formulating new Shariah policies and analyzing issues and its Shariah justifications and arguments related to:

  • Investment proposal and its legal documentation.
  • Non-investment products and initiatives for Simpanan Shariah (Shariah account); and
  • Shariah policies and guidelines related to Shariah-compliant investments (particularly in real estate investments and financing) and the operations of Simpanan Shariah (Shariah account).

E. Assisting in planning internal and external awareness and training programmes related to:

  • Shariah policies (particularly in real estate investments, financing and the operations of Simpanan Shariah); and
  • Simpanan Shariah (Shariah savings) and non-investment products and intiatives.

F. Supporting the development or enhancement of operational manuals and procedures, while considering new changes and opportunities to automate work processes.

G. Collaborating with relevant departments, external agencies and institutions:

  • Supporting collaboration with relevant departments within EPF, external agencies and institutions such as Bank Negara Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia, Jabatan Waqaf, Zakat & Haji (JAWHAR), Jabatan Kemajuan Islam (JAKIM), Majlis Agama Islam Negeri (MAIN), Zakat authorities, investment banks and custodian banks, fund managers in the development of Shariah-compliant initiatives, products and investment.

H. Executing tasks as assigned by the Management, Head of Department / Section from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Malaysian citizen.
  • Obtain a pass in Bahasa Melayu, including oral test in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognised by the Government.
  • Possess Bachelor's Degree in Shariah, which includes study in Usul Fiqh (the origin of Islamic law) OR Fiqh Muamalat (Islamic transaction/commercial law) recognized by the Malaysian Government from any local or overseas higher learning institutions.
  • At least six (6) years of working experience in Islamic Financial Institutions are preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools and strong analytical skills.
  • Being able to understand audited financial statements and accounting will be an added advantage.
  • Skilled in preparing slides for presentations.
  • Able to interact with top management, Shariah scholars, external professionals and other stakeholders.
  • Ability in conducting Shariah research and analysis and preparing Shariah working papers.
