Director of PE/Sports and CCA

This position is responsible for developing and executing a diverse and engaging sports and CCA programme according to the quality of an international school. This person will work closely with the School Governing Body in setting the overall sports and CCA in line with the School’s sports philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

• Lead the development and implementation of appropriate syllabuses, schemes of work and resources of the curriculum area.
• Strategise, plan and execute the implementation of initiatives for the development of teaching and learning alongside the Head of Academic.
• Lead teaching and learning improvements within the department.
• Monitor and evaluate the quality, standard and progress of teaching and learning in the department.
• Conduct and implement ongoing observations throughout the academic year to ensure high standards of teaching and learning and to promote the sharing of intentional teaching.

Assessments, Examinations, Data Analysis, Recording and Reporting

• Ensure the setting and checking of every subject assessment and examination meet the expected standards set by the school policy and Cambridge Assessment International Education (CIE).
• Review the assessment and examination analysis and report the findings.
• Develop action plans on target setting and improvements to achieve the said targets.

Leadership and Development

• Develop, implement and manage the sports leadership team.
• Implement a coaching structure for the sports and CCA department or engage with the external providers expertise in enhancing the quality of the sports and CCA programme.
• Work closely with the academic team and school governing body on the provision of the sports and CCA programme.
• Establish opportunities for students’ participation in external sporting fixtures e.g. inter-school, district, state or national level etc.
• Evaluate and review the annual performance of staff and CCA providers.

Facilities and Resources

• Ensure appropriate health and safety guidelines are in place and adhered to for sports fixtures.
• Work closely with the school governing body in the planning of major sporting events in terms of manpower support, financial resources and facilities.
• Establish a work plan for the sports, CCA and maintenance team in setting up resources including equipment needed for sports and CCA programmes.

Communication and Publicity

• Raise the school profile on sports events.
• Work with the marketing team and key stakeholders in promoting sporting and CCA events.
• Collect data and analyse statistics on sports and CCA achievements for the leadership team.

Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)

• Establish and maintain procedures to protect all students’ information and that the information is only used in relation to the work purposes.
• Ensure adherence to School’s PDPA policy for staff members in the team and also the external providers.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in teaching including CIE/IGCSE PE courses.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role; leading and supervising as a Head of Department utilising the CIE/IGCSE curriculum.
• Experience and proven successful in leading school’s sporting and CCA programmes
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• A level of maturity consistent with the requirements of the position for independent work, initiative, and teamwork.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office software.
• Excellent skills in strategising, planning and problem-solving.
• Ability to quickly prioritise and execute multiple competing tasks based on importance and urgency.
• Proven ability in leading, motivating and training staff members.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Can be counted on to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity and confidentiality.
• Pleasant personality and able to develop a good working relationship with all levels of staff.
