TECHNICAL SALES ENGINEER (This position will be based in KL-HQ)

As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for driving business development for new products, including line pipes, pipe fittings, and flanges.

This role involves managing the entire inquiry-to-order process, ensuring proposals and quotations meet required ASTM, API, ASME, and any applicable standards, and developing Bill of Quantities (BQ) and supplier requirements.

The Technical Sales Engineer will work closely with internal teams and external partners to secure new business and maintain compliance with industry standards.



Key Responsibilities:


Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities for line pipes, pipe fittings, and flanges in targeted market segments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, industry partners, and suppliers.
  • Present technical and business proposals to clients, highlighting product features, advantages, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Liaise with Government Authority i.e. SIRIM, CIDB to ensure products imported comply with Malaysian Law & Regulations.

Quotation, Proposal, and Tender Management

  • Handle client inquiries and prepare accurate, timely proposals and quotations.
  • Ensure all proposals comply with ASTM, API, and ASME standards and industry-specific regulations.
  • Review customer specifications & requirements and align them with product offerings.
  • Collaborate with suppliers for technical information and pricing.

Inquiry to Order Process

  • Manage the entire sales cycle from the inquiry stage through to order placement, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to gather technical and pricing information for inclusion in proposals.
  • Develop Bill of Quantities (BQ) and ensure that suppliers meet the required technical and quality standards.

Compliance and Standards

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of ASTM, API, and ASME standards to ensure all proposals meet regulatory and quality requirements.
  • Regularly update internal processes to reflect changes in industry standards and ensure continuous compliance
  • Conduct technical evaluations and ensure that all supplier products adhere to the required standards.

Supplier Development & Compliance

  • Work with suppliers to define product specifications and ensure they meet the Company’s technical and compliance standards.
  • Evaluate suppliers’ performance and ensure that quality and delivery standards are maintained.
  • Define requirements that suppliers need to comply with in terms of product quality, technical specifications, and relevant standards

Handling Technical Clarifications

  • Address and resolve all technical clarifications raised by clients during the bidding process.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, production, and quality) to clarify technical questions and ensure accurate responses are provided to clients.
  • Provide detailed technical explanations to support the proposal and ensure clients’ expectations are met.

Collaboration with Inside Sales

  • Work closely with the Inside Sales team to ensure that all proposals and quotations are aligned with technical requirements and client specifications.
  • Support the Inside Sales team by providing technical input during the preparation of quotations and proposals.
  • Work together to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of proposals to clients.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of all sales activities, proposals, client communications, and technical documentation.
  • Generate regular reports on quotation activity, bid performance, and compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Instrumentation Engineering/Engineering/Business Administration or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of proven track records in Sales/Marketing for line pipes, pipe fittings & Flanges, or in related business environments.
  • Experience in the pipe fittings servicing market is advantageous.
  • Strong presentation, marketing, and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with a strong ability to learn and adapt.
  • Willing to travel on short notice
