Cardiac Technicians provide technical services for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and operate a range of specialist equipment that generates data for doctors to use in patient care.
- Adhere to all departmental and Centre policies and guidelines at all times, providing a high standard of safe practice in patient care.
- Handle and care for all cardiac diagnostic equipment, including but not limited to echocardiography, ECG, stress test machines, etc.
- Conduct, monitor, and record non-invasive technician-led cardiac diagnostic tests on the doctor's instruction, and report the results accordingly.
- Record all necessary documentation in patients’ records while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Contribute as required to the development of services and policies in the Cardiology Department.
- Provide first-line management, electrical safety checks, and calibration of equipment.
- Support nursing, medical, and technician staff in the implementation of patient care.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical services for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
- Monitor and record electrocardiography (ECG) results, with the ability to recognize and interpret patterns and rhythms.
- Fit portable ECG monitors for ambulatory monitoring, recording ECG data over a 24-hour period, and replay and analyze the results using a computerized system.
- Conduct technician-led exercise ECG stress tests to assess a patient's cardiac response to exercise, interpreting and recording the results.
- Operate echocardiography ultrasound equipment to scan heart structures, measure parameters such as chamber size, blood flow, and valve abnormalities, and interpret and report the results.
- Conduct non-invasive cardiac diagnostic tests, including 24-hour BP monitoring and Holter monitoring.
- Monitor and record ECG and blood pressure data during cardiac catheterization.
- Use established techniques to interpret patient test results and write reports for doctors' assessment of patients.
- Adhere to all policies and guidelines, including aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures; ensure disposals are handled according to established protocols.
- Provide the hospital management with records and reports as required.
- Contribute to the development of services and policies in the Cardiology Department.
- Ensure the care and cleanliness of all cardiac diagnostic equipment and accessories (including but not limited to echocardiography, ECG, stress test machines, etc.) and ensure regular checks and preventive maintenance are performed.
- Report and attend to any equipment breakdowns immediately, contacting relevant technical support while following the company’s SOP and protocols at all times.
- Adhere to internal controls established for the department and provide care in line with International Patient Safety Goals.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures regarding care, human resources, health and safety, and familiarize yourself with Fire and Disaster Plans and their implementation.
- Work within the risk management framework set by the company.
- Report all accidents and incidents as outlined in hospital procedures, and participate in investigations and remedial actions.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
