JOB DESCRIPTION: Key Role and Responsibilities of a Teacher

The job description acts as a reference for Early years to Secondary level teachers. A teacher’s Head of Department (HOD) or person in-charge of the department will guide each teacher on his/her role and responsibilities. The HOD will have the discretion to make changes to the job description to manage the department effectively. Each teacher must take the responsibility to clarify and understand his/her role from the HOD.

1. GENERAL

1.1 Upholds dignity of the profession, champions professional standards, exercises values of integrity and moral courage, and is a positive role model for fellow teachers and students.
1.2 Demonstrates team spirit, contributes to a collaborative culture and supports the team in moving towards a shared vision.
1.3 Undertakes department responsibilities for documentation, cover, setting assessment papers, marking etc. as delegated by the HOD.
1.4 Attends all department and school staff meetings and any other meetings organised by the school. Unless permission is granted by the HOD due to other commitments.
1.5 Contributes to the implementation of school initiatives and duties (e.g. HRT, ECA, school duties, committees, school events) assigned by the school.
1.6 Establishes networks and communicates with stakeholders (e.g. parents) regularly to help achieve the school’s desired outcomes.

2. CURRICULUM PLANNING and TEACHING and LEARNING

2.1 Builds a positive and conducive learning environment and mutual trust with students by implementing the school’s Student Behaviour Management and Safeguarding policies.
2.2 Has read and understands the Cambridge schemes of work, for the subject/s taught, and implements them into his/her planning and teaching
2.3 Has a good knowledge of Cambridge Curriculum and Assessment and is able to apply relevant knowledge to support teaching and learning and pastoral care.
2.4 Keeps abreast of trends and developments by staying current, expanding knowledge on teaching and learning and actively seeking training and Professional Development opportunities.
2.5 Designs lesson plans with appropriate learning objectives, activities and resources that consistently contribute towards achieving a student-centric, values-driven education in accordance with Cambridge Curriculum and Assessment.

2.6 Delivers effective, engaging and well-paced lessons by adopting a range of teaching techniques.
2.7 Prepares and delivers lessons for formal and informal lesson observations required by HOD.

3. ASSESSMENT

3.1 Designs appropriate and varied modes of assessment that enhance teaching and learning with approval of HOD.
3.2 Monitors student performance, provides accurate feedback and takes follow-up actions in a timely manner.
3.3 Implements the Invictus Homework policy
3.4 In accordance with the school’s assessment committee policies:
3.4.1 Prepares assessment papers
3.4.2 Conducts assessments for the students
3.4.3 Carries out standardisation, marking and moderates assessment scores
3.4.4 Prepares both pastoral and academic assessment reports during each term, as instructed by his/her HOD.

4. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR SELF and OTHERS
4.1 Shares knowledge in areas of professional mastery for the curriculum (including Extra-Curricular Activities), pedagogy, assessment and student behaviour management with fellow teachers.
4.2 Takes ownership in seeking learning opportunities to develop oneself holistically.
4.3 Participates in all school organised professional development courses.

5. ADMINISTRATIVE WORK
5.1 Adhere to the school’s student management process:
5.1.1 Student attendance for all school activities
5.1.2 Student referrals for Student Behaviour Management and Safeguarding
5.1.3 Hand phone Policy
5.1.4 Communication with parents/guardians
5.1.5 Parent-Teacher meeting regarding student development

6. SPECIAL EVENTS and PROGRAMME
Participates in any special event / programme organised during school holidays, weekends or public holidays.

7. ANY OTHER DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Carriers out any other assigned duties as agreed and directed by the school management.
