Position Overview:

  • Lead a team of designers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, research & development of Powerwell product in terms of design and ensuring alignment with the Company’s strategic goals

Key Responsibilities:

  • Budgeting, Planning & Development: Assist the Head of Production in producing the yearly budget in terms of capacity, manpower planning, team culture activity and development of design team
  • Research & Development (R&D): Manage and continuous improvement of Powerwell Group (Malaysia and any subsidiary in overseas) research and development (R&D) and product design (entire product included metal part, busbar) department. Lead, mentor, and manage a team of researchers, developers, and product designers, fostering a creative and collaborative environment
  • Design Strategy: Develop and execute strategies including allocation of resources effectively, managing workload and priorities that help to achieve Company goals. Designing and creating prototypes, testing, and refining products before releasing to the market
  • Project Management: Making sure completion of design on time, on budget and quality standards are met
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other departments, such as marketing, production, and quality assurance, to ensure the product meet all necessary standards and market needs
  • Innovation: Keeping up to date on latest design and technologies and incorporating innovative approaches into the design process. Drive innovation in product design (including budgeting and scheduling) with keeping up on industry trends. Presenting design concepts and prototypes to stakeholders, gathering feedback and make necessary adjustments.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that design outputs meet quality standards and brand guidelines. Conducting or overseeing customer research to understand customer needs and behaviours and incorporating this feedback into the design process. Ensuring products comply with industry regulations and standards. Lead new product testing in local or overseas.
  • Others: To take on other duties and tasks given by Management from time to time. To comply with Company ISO standard and procedure.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in design with at least 3 to 5 years of managerial experiences.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills to guide and inspire the design team.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets and resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of the relevant scientific or technical field
  • Creativity: Innovative thinking to develop new products and solutions
  • Deep knowledge of design principles, methodologies, and tools (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, CAD software, design thinking).
  • Excellent project management skills to handle multiple design projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop a creative vision and translate it into practical and innovative product designs.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting design concepts and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, user feedback, and technical constraints to inform design decisions.
  • High attention to detail to ensure precision and quality in design outputs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address design challenges and technical issues.
