What you’ll be doing:

The Global Director – Legal, Compliance & Secretarial will play a critical role in shaping and executing the legal strategy for Plaza Premium Group, besides overseeing the compliance and secretarial portfolio. Reporting directly to the CEO, this prominent position involves managing a team of legal & secretarial professionals and providing expert guidance on various legal, compliance & secretarial matters. The role is essential in ensuring that the Group operates within the legal frameworks of the regions we serve, focusing on compliance, risk management, and strategic legal initiatives.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement legal strategies that align with the Group's objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify legal risks and opportunities related to business operations and provide proactive advice to mitigate risks while supporting business growth.
  • Oversee legal due diligence for business ventures, negotiate terms, and manage the drafting and execution of legal agreements.
  • Provide ongoing legal support for the Group’s operations, including corporate governance, compliance, intellectual property, and regulatory matters.
  • Ensure company’s intellectual property portfolio is protected and defended, including patents, trademarks and copyright.
  • Oversee legal issues related to employee disputes, investigations and terminations.
  • Overseeing litigation of the group with appropriate legal strategy
  • Manage and mentor a team of legal & secretarial professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Stay informed about regulatory developments relevant to the Group’s operations, ensuring compliance across various jurisdictions.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with external legal counsel, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
  • Performing successfully and producing results in a fast-paced, intellectually intense, client-oriented environment
  • Being proactive and a team player having the interpersonal skills to work in a loosely structured, matrixed organisation.

About you:

  • Minimum of 15 years of legal experience, with a strong background in corporate law and compliance as well as secretarial experience. Regional or global experience is a plus.
  • Experience with a reputable law firm or in-house legal department, particularly within the hospitality or service industry, is preferred.
  • Familiar with established compliance framework (GDPR, ABAC, etc)
  • Have experience providing pragmatic business advice and be able to harmonise business needs, able to maintain realistic balance among multiple priorities
  • Strong understanding of corporate and securities laws, as well as emerging regulatory frameworks in relevant sectors.
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of successfully managing teams and driving strategic legal initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Juris Doctor (JD)/LLB (or equivalent legal qualification) and admitted to practice (i.e. call to the Bar) is required; additional qualifications or certifications in relevant legal areas are a plus.
  • Ability to handle contracts in Chinese language is a plus.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of portfolios and issues, both within and outside defined scope
