POSITION SUMMARY:

The Systems Engineer I is responsible for the systems design and lifecycle management of BISSELL’s portfolio of shared systems, sub-systems, and technology solutions. This person will have Systems Engineering experience and will be responsible for the definition of solutions which span product families in BISSELL’s product lines. These systems include mechanical and electronic systems composed of structural systems, fluid handling systems, heat transfer systems, mechanical motion, power systems, motors, sensors, and electronic controls. The candidate should have experience in developing requirements, designing systems using SysML modeling language, and evaluating design decision tradeoffs.


Responsibilities

POSITION PROFILE:

  • Utilize and demonstrate proficiency in systems engineering to develop requirements, formal structure definition, and functional behavioral definition of mechanical, hardware and software systems that can serve as the foundation of future product development.
  • Develop reusable modules and interfaces in support of system architectures and roadmap.
  • Execute best practices for robust product development by writing/tracing requirements, measuring performance, and steer V&V efforts in design validation.
  • Produce design documentation showing critical thinking in the analysis of design decision tradeoffs with respect to cost, consumer benefit, performance, and modular reuse.
  • Manage the lifecycle of both architected subsystems and components to ensure the portfolio of solutions remains relevant to BISSELLs present and future needs.Collaborate with internal engineering teams, quality teams and procurement partners to deliver optimized component/sub-system solutions from concept to production.
  • Work closely with BISSELLs consumer experience groups and product marketing groups to understand key consumer needs and translate those into the key specifications which drive critical performance requirements.
  • Work closely with BISSELL compliance engineers to ensure our product architectures continue to support the evolving landscape of agency requirements.
  • Provide knowledge and guidance for quality improvement and cost reduction projects ensuring proper engineering rigor execution.
  • Position holder will have a solid foundation in engineering fundamentals, proven verbal and written communication capabilities, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Track progress of projects and publish status reports for projects led by systems engineer position holder.

· Promote the advancement of model-based systems engineering across the organization.

· Support integration of systems engineering into the product development process.


Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (master’s degree desired in engineering, technology management or business management), or equivalent education and work experience
  • Specific concentration: Engineering and Product Development Experience, Lean Product Development Environment Experience a plus
  • Experience level: 2-3 years of relevant technical experience in product engineering.
  • Proven cross functional abilities as it relates to guidance and execution in mechanical and electrical design methodologies, test, materials, manufacturing, etc.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • Systems Engineering Certification: INCOSE ASEP certification or equivalent experience in defining systems using systems engineering principles & process.
  • Six Sigma: Green / Yellow belt certification with significant experience in structured problem solving, experimental design, and process improvement.
  • Experience with the design and manufacture of fluid or air moving products. Familiarity with floor care products subsystems is an added advantage.
  • Experience in systems modelling, e.g., using standard tools like Matlab / Simulink / Simscape / Dymola / Modelica.
  • Experience with CFD, FEA and other simulation tools.
  • Proven technical development history for an international brand company, preferably in consumer products.
  • Strong bias for action and a history of delivering results.
  • Good people skills, with a proven ability to foster innovation and deliver results.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis tools, 3D modeling, and PLM systems.
  • Proficiency in SysML modeling language.
