Job Description Summary
The Manufacturing Unit Leader will have overall ownership of production, processes, and people included in the respective Manufacturing Unit and will be fully responsible to deliver upon SQDC targets, to eliminate losses in the area through BD Excellence and to grow the capability of the team. This role has responsibility for the designated product line including setting goals, making decisions, and driving accountability toward department objectives in the designated Manufacturing Unit. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Accountable for Safety & Health and career development of associates in respective Manufacturing Unit. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.
Coordinate all production activities in Kulim facility to produce products effectively and economically from raw material to packaged items in accordance with schedules and product specifications.
Job Description
1. Accountable for the achievement of key strategic, operational and functional goals.
2. Developing and mentoring the manufacturing unit to drive results by focusing on production, associate capability development and ownership. Ensure that the manufacturing unit is adequately staffed with competent people to carry out their responsibility and attain manufacturing goals required by the organization.
3. Coordinates and drives all activities within the manufacturing unit and sets priorities.
4. Responsible for developing and managing the manufacturing unit’s budget and headcount levels.
5. Coordinates the establishment and communication of challenging SQDC goals. Translates manufacturing unit targets into lines / areas / workplaces and ensures that each associate understands what is expected from them with documented individual, specific and measurable targets.
6. Initiates and drives change to ensure that short and long term SQDC goals for the lines / areas under responsibility are being met as per timeline given.
7. Resolves issues in the line and for the manufacturing unit in a timely manner, while displaying servant leadership. Manages the team in line with BD values.
8. Runs the TM cycle for the lines/areas and sets the 24-hour direction for the manufacturing unit;
9. Does yearly performance reviews of the team and ensures every individual has an active development plan in place and does regular 1:1s with each team member to review performance and help them to grow.
10. Leads DTM activities being responsible for creating of DTM work processes (e.g., CIL, CL etc.)
11. Ensure that all manufacturing equipment is properly installed and qualified before use.
12. Investigate new production methods and cost saving techniques and implementing same where practical.
13. Facilitates BD Excellence implementation within the manufacturing unit.
14. Collaborate with Logistics to establish production schedules, monitor delivery performance versus schedule.
15. Ensures regular, timely, and accurate assessments of hourly associates are delivered through coaching activities.
16. Works with associates to resolve issues and concerns; involves HR when needed.
17. Builds his/her own mastery in the operation, people management and BD Excellence.
18. Spends more than 50% of the time on the production floor overseeing activities within the manufacturing unit.
19. Ensure all Environment, Safety and Health guidelines are complied to local and corporate requirement. To drive the process safety improvement includes Health and Safety risk analysis, waste reduction activities in the manufacturing
20. Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.
