Job Summary:

The Lecturer in Ophthalmology will be responsible for providing high-quality teaching to medical students and postgraduate trainees, conducting research in the field of Ophthalmology, and offering clinical care to patients. The role includes delivering lectures, leading clinical training, supervising students’ clinical work, and contributing to research projects within the department. The Lecturer will play a key role in educating future ophthalmologists and advancing research in eye care.

Duties and Responsibilities:Teaching and Academic Responsibilities:

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical training on Ophthalmology to students.
  • Prepare and update course materials and curricula.
  • Supervise students during clinical placements for practical experience.
  • Assess students' knowledge through exams and practical tests.
  • Mentor students and residents in Ophthalmology.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and reviews.
  • Provide specialized clinical care and perform surgeries (e.g., cataract, glaucoma).
  • Supervise and guide junior doctors and students in clinical settings.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings for complex cases.
  • Stay updated on Ophthalmology advancements and integrate them into teaching.
  • Conduct and publish research in Ophthalmology.
  • Apply for research grants and present at conferences.
  • Supervise postgraduate research projects.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and industry partners on research initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and academic planning.
  • Serve on committees related to education, research, or clinical governance.
  • Assist in faculty recruitment and mentoring.
  • Engage in outreach programs and ensure compliance with regulations.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Medical Degree (MBBS/MD) with specialization in Ophthalmology (e.g., Fellowship of Royal College of Ophthalmologists or equivalent).
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience in Ophthalmology with teaching involvement.
  • Expertise in ophthalmic surgeries (e.g., cataracts, glaucoma, retinal procedures).
  • Research experience with published work in Ophthalmology.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and treating various eye conditions, including surgeries.
  • Committed to providing high-quality patient care.
  • Ability to teach and mentor medical students and residents effectively.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven research record with the ability to secure funding and publish.
  • Able to supervise postgraduate research.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent at managing academic, research, and clinical duties.
  • Dedicated to staying current with Ophthalmology advancements and applying new knowledge in practice and teaching.

Job Type: Contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: RM7,000.00 - RM10,000.00 per month
