Overview

Commodities People is a business events company specialising in the fascinating world of commodities (yes, you’ve guessed it!) and energy trading – particularly looking at how global trends such as sustainability, digitalisation and geopolitics are shaping the markets.

We are fast growing and global, but small enough for the right person to not just be a ‘cog in the machine’ and to be able to quickly make an impact.

We gather around 35,000 professionals from across the globe each year to our in-person and online events. We also run industry content hubs, ongoing webinars and create content and whitepapers to provide year-round engagement with our community.

During the last 3 years we have experienced significant success and growth – doubling the size of the company every year and adding events in the United States and Singapore.

We have a friendly, experienced, international team working remotely across Europe, America and Asia, and flexibly from our shared offices in London and Houston.

The Role

This is primarily a new business sales role - you will sell sponsorship and partnership packages to a range of vendor company prospects, primarily in technology, consulting and financial services, across our event portfolio.

Your clients and prospects will be based globally, so experience and comfort in selling in English is a must.

You will be required through research and training to swiftly grasp the mechanisms of the global commodity and energy trading sectors – particularly to understand how our core sponsor categories fit in with key themes and activities.

This is a remote first role – so self-management and having a clear motivator to succeed is crucial.

Your day-to-day work will involve full coverage of the sales process – research, originating opportunities and leads, outreach, pitching, proposal development and writing, closing business, and client relationship management.

You will report directly to the Commercial Director, who has over 25 years success in running high performing sales teams.

Core skills and experience

Must have

  • Proven English language event sponsorship selling success – consistently ranking in the top 25% in your previous roles
  • Ability to learn and grasp complicated concepts quickly – while fascinating, this sector is complex. To properly research and position our offering you must be smart, and a quick learner.
  • Clear motivator to succeed – Away from the day-to-day camaraderie of a sales floor - more than ever you will be the architect and driver of your own success.
  • Strong self-management skills and experience – we do not believe in micromanagement and in any case, it is impractical in a remote setting. Your ability to manage your activities and schedule, to ensure your KPIs are hit and exceeded is critical to being successful.
  • A highly proactive nature – outside of an office setting you should proactively reach out to colleagues around the world and conduct your own research to ensure you have necessary information, process knowledge and are equipped in every way for success.
  • A fluent English speaker with strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice to have

  • Degree level (or equivalent qualifications) and above
  • Knowledge of energy and/or commodities markets
  • Experience using Hubspot or similar CRM tools
  • Understanding of sales automation tools and other sales technology

The package

  • $30,000 USD p/a, plus commission OTE $80,000 USD
  • 22 Days Annual Leave – plus 1 day for each years’ employment (up to 25 days p/a)
  • Your Birthday as an additional day off
  • Remote Working Policy – We’re an international team with a thirst for travel so encourage our team to make the most of our remote working policy!
  • Flexible Working Policy – many of our staff work flexibly in different ways particularly due to our different time-zones and to facilitate family commitments.
  • Potential for international travel
  • Family / working parent friendly policies
