Job Overview

The Academic Director will report directly to the Centre Director and hold the vital responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the academic programme, ensuring adherence to the guidelines set forth in the ELS Language Centres Operations Manual and local centre policies. Key functions include the development and execution of the curriculum, as well as the management of student assessment, class scheduling, and the recruitment and training of instructional staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an academic programme that aligns with ELS Language Centres' established curriculum standards.
  • Recruit, train, and provide supervision for instructional staff.
  • Deliver classroom instruction as needed.
  • Manage the instructional budget while adhering to allocated instructional-hour guidelines.
  • Procure and maintain instructional materials.
  • Oversee student placement, testing, and evaluation processes.
  • Coordinate class schedules, ensuring effective allocation of teachers and students.
  • Facilitate orientation for new students entering the academic programme.
  • Prepare and submit required academic reports to universities and sponsors in a timely manner.
  • Communicate required reports to the Centre Director and the Director of Academic Planning & Training Unit as per established schedules.
  • Supervise instructional staff to ensure high-quality educational delivery.
  • Implement strategies to achieve the agreed-upon student retention percentage.
  • Assist with the management of special programmes as assigned.
  • Maintain operational oversight in the Centre Director's absence.
  • Execute additional duties as necessary or directed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in ESL/TESOL/TEFL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field is preferred. A Bachelor's degree with equivalent practical experience is required.
  • A minimum of four years of teaching experience in ESL/EFL, with at least two years in an administrative role overseeing educational staff and responsibilities.
  • Proven expertise in curriculum planning and implementation.
