Job Purpose

Maximizing yield, preservation, and enhancement of overall asset performance through the optimization of cost and resources in compliance with safety, quality and statutory requirements within the framework of standard operating procedures and key performance standards to ensure customer’s comfort and satisfaction. Centralized Operation & Maintenance of High Voltage and Medium Voltage substation and related activities to ensure business continuity and efficiency.

Main Accountabilities

  • Collaborate closely with TNB, specifically NLDC, in accordance with IOM procedures for electrical switching, ensuring the fulfilment of all notifications and electrical switching requirements.
  • Carry out switching for any 132 kV switchgear for maintenance and during power failures.
  • Conduct daily routine inspections and monitor the performance of 132kV installations, as well as conduct frequent site inspections of other 33kV and 11kV electrical rooms.
  • Assist the Chargeman for LV and MV switching.
  • Ensure compliance to regulatory requirement by staying updated on relevant safety codes and operating procedures, with a focus on continuous improvement in operational safety.
  • Coordinate major activities such as startup, commissioning, planned shutdowns, troubleshooting, and programmed maintenance, serving as a Subject Matter Expert for all electrical and power distribution systems.
  • Participate in the development and revision of electrical-related procedures and specifications, ensuring the completion of risk assessments for critical activities.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and analyze alarms triggered through the SCADA system.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory, legal, and safety requirements in all areas, with a priority on human safety to foster a secure working environment.
  • Shall inspect the installation and shall record and direct all findings, recommendations to the Energy Commission and management as the case.
  • Assist in establishing Facilities competent persons for chargeman, wireman, and engineers.
  • Participate in energy management and efficiency programs for the site.
  • Review technical inquiries and tender document.
  • Provide support i.e. substation visit and report for all MV facilities systems owned by the Company.

    • Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
    • Hold a Certificate of Competency as a 132kV Electrical Engineer Competent Person from the Energy Commission

    Experience:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the capacity of an Electrical Engineer or a comparable role.
  • Technical/ Functional Skills:
    • Knowledge of GIS Systems
    • Power transformer
    • Relay control panel
    • Remote switching panel
    • SCADA system
    • Hands on support for electrical system, especially in maintenance & switching for HT up to 132KV.
