Job Purpose
The Steam Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of steam boilers and related systems within a power plant. This role involves supervising the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam generation equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor high-pressure steam boilers and related systems in the power plant.
- Ensure boilers are running efficiently to meet power generation requirements, while adhering to safety regulations and operating limits.
- Monitor boiler controls, fuel consumption, steam pressure, temperature, and water levels to ensure stable operations.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers, turbines, steam piping, and auxiliary equipment to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in steam generation systems, ensuring timely resolution to avoid plant interruptions.
- Coordinate and supervise major overhauls, repairs, and routine servicing of the boilers and steam systems.
- Ensure all steam operations comply with local, national, and international safety standards, including compliance with DOSH regulations for steam boilers.
- Maintain detailed logs and reports on boiler performance, maintenance schedules, safety checks, and regulatory inspections.
- Perform safety checks, pressure testing, and risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
- Optimize steam production and distribution to maximize energy efficiency and minimize operational costs.
- Monitor fuel usage and implement strategies to reduce fuel consumption and emissions in compliance with environmental standards.
- Analyse boiler and system performance data to recommend operational improvements and plant efficiency measures.
- Supervise boiler operators and maintenance staff, ensuring they are trained and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and operators.
- Oversee emergency response procedures in the event of boiler malfunctions or operational failures.
- Collaborate with the operations and control room teams to ensure that the power plant meets its generation targets.
- Assist in testing and commissioning of new steam systems and equipment.
Job Requirement:
- Grade 1 Steam Engineer certification issued by the Malaysian Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
- Minimum of 8 years of experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers, preferably in a power plant setting.
- Proficiency in boiler operation, maintenance, steam system troubleshooting, and familiarity with turbine operations.
- Strong knowledge of safety standards and procedures related to steam and power plant operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a safety-first mindset.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies effectively
