Job Description

Objective:

This Statement of Work (SOW) defines the roles, responsibilities, and expectations for the Data Center Operator position to ensure efficient and reliable operation of the data center.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise Operations Supervisor, Tape Librarian, Operators, and Production Support Unit.

• Manage staff scheduling and operational responsibilities, providing 24x7 support.

• Ensure proper physical security and safety implementation in the Data Center according to compliance standards.

• Evaluate, recommend, and coordinate data center support requirements and services with user groups.

• Manage Tape backup processes, including tape backup, restoration, and inventory management.

• Manage documentation, testing, and implementation of IT Recovery Systems.

• Oversee daily production responsibilities, including system and networking component monitoring, batch job scheduling, report printing, problem resolution, enterprise data backup monitoring, data transmission, and reporting.

• Oversee daily operation of Data Centre facilities, including inventory management, space allocation, hardware changes, facility security, power management, environment control, and systems connectivity.

• Monitor and manage Production Support team for successful application migration to production systems.

• Perform production support activities when required.

• Stay informed about developments in computing hardware, software, networking, disaster recovery, and data center management.

• Supervise repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of computer systems and data center facilities.

• Plan, develop, and implement strategies and project management for Data Center and IT DRP to meet organizational objectives, within budget and timelines.

• Maintain and audit monitoring processes in the Data Center.

• Measure and maintain operational metrics, providing KPI reports to management.

• Plan and execute business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, conducting IT DRP tests biannually.

• Conduct IT risk assessments for Data Center and IT DRP.

• Manage Data Center and IT DRP operations, including planning, evaluation, purchasing, budgeting, installation, and ensuring reliable operation of hardware and networking equipment.

• Ensure accuracy of Start of Day Alert (SODA) and timely distribution of data center operation reports.

• Oversee daily Service Desk operations.

• Involve, assist, or lead in IT project initiatives.

• Maintain and track production application source code.

• Perform all other duties assigned by management.

• Support 24x7 operations.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in data center operations or a related field, demonstrating knowledge of data center best practices.

• Proficiency in using monitoring tools and systems for data center management and incident response.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with stakeholders and technical personnel.

• Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to data center operations.

• Availability for occasional off-hours work to support 24/7 operations.

Deliverables:

• Monthly operational reports summarizing uptime, incidents, maintenance activities, and performance metrics.

• Updated documentation of data center procedures, configurations, and asset inventories
