Overview

The Upper School Principal serves as the pedagogical leader of the Upper School (G7 – G12), responsible for creating a vibrant and inclusive learning environment. As a key member of the leadership team, the Principal collaborates with school leaders to develop and implement educational strategies that align with the school's mission, vision, and values. This role requires an inspiring leader who can promote academic excellence, student well-being, and a culture of continuous improvement. The Principal will lead a diverse team of educators, ensure smooth daily operations, and foster strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute the Upper School action plan in alignment with the school’s mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.

• Foster an environment of high expectations and continuous improvement in all areas of school life, focusing on both academic and personal growth of students.

• Promote innovation and future-focused educational practices that prepare students for their evolving academic and career pathways.

Student Well-being

• Create a nurturing environment where students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.

• Oversee the development and continuous improvement of the school's social-emotional learning programs to enhance holistic development.

• Collaborate with student support services to ensure appropriate interventions for students needing additional support.

• Actively engage parents and guardians to build a strong partnership in support of student success.

Academic Program and Performance

• Oversee the implementation of a rigorous, research-informed academic program, ensuring alignment with the school’s definition of learning and educational best practices.

• Monitor student performance and implement data-driven strategies to support continuous improvement across academic programs.

• Ensure the delivery of differentiated instruction that caters to the diverse needs of all learners, including those needing extra support or advanced challenges.

• Facilitate smooth transitions between grade levels and programs, ensuring students have a coherent academic experience throughout their Upper School years.

Hiring, Evaluation, and Professional Development

• Lead recruitment efforts to attract and retain talented educators capable of delivering the school's academic programs.

• Oversee performance evaluations, ensuring all faculty members receive timely feedback and growth opportunities.

• Promote a culture of collective responsibility and professional development, aligned with the school's goals and strategic vision.

• Facilitate the development of teacher-leaders and support middle-management staff in their growth and responsibilities.

Community Engagement and Communication

• Be a visible and approachable leader within the school community, attending key events, engaging with students, and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.

• Actively communicate the school's vision, mission, and educational objectives to parents, staff, and students through various platforms and events.

• Address community concerns proactively and professionally, ensuring timely resolutions and fostering a positive school culture.

School Operations

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Upper School, ensuring the smooth execution of academic and extracurricular programs.

• Ensure the efficient use of school resources, including staffing, time, and budget allocation.

• Ensure compliance with all school policies, including child safeguarding, crisis management, and health and safety regulations.

Requirements

• Educational Qualifications: A Master’s degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Curriculum Development, or a related field.

• Experience:

o Proven leadership experience within an international or diverse educational setting, preferably with experience leading a upper school division.

o Strong understanding of contemporary educational practices, change management, and the challenges facing international schools.

• Skills and Attributes:

o Visionary leadership with the ability to inspire and manage diverse teams of educators and support staff.

o A collaborative decision-maker who values input from all stakeholders while driving high standards for student learning and well-being.

o Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust and foster positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

o Culturally aware, with a global mindset and a commitment to fostering an inclusive school environment.

o Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with fluency in English (additional language skills are a plus).

• Certifications: Teaching credentials and relevant leadership certifications in education are highly desirable.
