Flexographic Printing Press Machine Operator

JOB DESCRIPTION : FLEXO PRINTING MACHINE OPERATOR

1. Flexographic (abbreviated to flexo) printing is a form of rotary printing in which quick-drying inks are transferred from flexible printing plates to a substrate.

2. Handle and operate flexographic printing press machines that can print on all sorts of surfaces, such as fabrics, paper, and plastic bags.

3. Prepare the press for printing, including filling ink and calibrating the machine and feeding the textiles or paper into the machine.

4. Troubleshooting any issues that might arise during printing.

5. Accurately read job printing orders and follow their specifications with attention to detail.

6. Perform large-scale printing of text and images on a variety of materials such as paper and plastic.

7. Must be quick to change the print designs.

8. Handle adjustment of the repeat length of the printed pattern.

9. Manage the speed of the production process which, once the initial setup is completed, is fully automated.

• Use a wide variety of ink types. The materials used in the printing process is Low-density polyethylene (LDPE). The products using these materials are generally made to be tear-resistant and to have a fluid-resistant outer surface, properties that can make applying ink a challenge during the printing process.
• Perform environmentally-friendly process, when water-based inks are used.
• Monitor and follow up on scheduled maintenance for low maintenance requirements, with parts that tend to have a long operating life.

13. Manage flexo printing machine of two-phase process: prepress and printing.

14. The prepress phase is where all the preparations are made, including:

a. Making of the plates that will be used to print the design on the substrate (multiple plates are made, one for each color in the pattern).

b. Mounting of the plates on the printing sleeves.

c. Ink preparation.

15. The printing phase is where the plate sleeves are mounted on the printing machine and the ink is pumped into the inking system. There are several printing stations, one for each color, in which the following process takes place:

a. The anilox cylinder is fed through the inking system using the doctor blade chamber

Ink is transferred from the inking system to the plate, supported by a cylinder called plate cylinder, using the anilox.

b. During the ink transfer, the anilox cylinder doctor blade ensures that there is an even and well-distributed amount of ink on the plate.

c. The substrate to be printed is fed between the plate and the counter-pressure (C.I.) cylinder.

d. The plate is set against the substrate wrapped on the counter-pressure (C.I.) cylinder, thus obtaining the printing of the desired colour.

e. The printed substrate is passed through a dryer.

f. Finally, the substrate is passed to the next printing station and the process is repeated until the desired image has been rendered.

1. Possess SPM, certificate or diploma in printing.

2. Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working in the manufacturing industry with flexography printing press equipment.

3. Working experience in a manufacturing environment is an advantage.

4. Strong physical stamina is good to have to lift heavy products.

5. Able to work in Parit Yaani paper product factory in Batu Pahat, Johor.
