Rice Inc. is a social enterprise empowering smallholder farmers out of poverty in Southeast Asia via providing access to technologies and premium markets. They had received funding from the United Nations, the United Kingdom and the Hult Prize by former US President Bill Clinton.

If you are a student or fresh graduate keen on experiencing working with an early-stage startup and get the opportunity to work on high-priority critical projects that results in positive social impact on the farming community, this is the perfect opportunity for you! In addition to a competitive renumeration, they also do provide exposure to students curious about entrepreneurship, venture capital and social impact in the longer term.

This position is on-site, requiring you to be based in Kuching or Kota Samarahan, Sarawak. You will be working closely with the Project Manager in operating and executing project tasks with the farmers in Kg Lubok Punggor, Simunjan. The period of this internship is 6 weeks with (option to extend).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Project Manager in strategizing, planning and implementing community projects within outlined scope, budget and timeline

• Monitor project progress, address potential issues, and report the project progress to the project management.

• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation and report

• Attend, contribute, and take minutes at weekly team meetings, and perform and assist on ad hoc tasks when required

• Assist in developing strategies and implementation ideas for the project

• Assist in weekly visits to the project area and provide on-the-ground updates

Qualifications

• Highly proficient in English, Bahasa Malaysia and local dialect.

• Knowledge and skill set in coordinating, developing, planning, and executing projects for social impact is an added advantage

• Good problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills (written & verbal)

• Ability to interpret and present information and/or data related to the projects.

• Proactive and passionate in tasks

• Consistently approach work with a positive, constructive attitude, an eye for detail, and seeking to improve processes
