Role Description

The Senor Executive (Legal), Assistant Manager (Legal) / Manager (Legal) will be a member of the Group Legal Department, assisting the Group Legal Advisor in all aspects of legal affairs. This role involves significant interaction with senior management, providing advice on a variety of legal issues, managing external solicitors and leading internal teams on the legal aspects of the business within the LGB group of companies. You will collaborate with the in-house legal team in analysing laws, rulings, contracts, and regulations to address legal concerns and protect the interests of the companies within the LGB group of companies. You will be expected to stay updated with changes in local, state, and federal laws and regulations. You are expected to deliver legal opinions to help management understand legal matters affecting business operations and transactions. Success in this role will be demonstrated by providing timely and valuable legal inputs and solutions, and by helping management make sound and lawful business decision.

Responsibilities

  • Taking of instructions from the Group Legal Head on matters involving the companies within the LGB group of companies. This will involve preparation and/or vetting of legal documents, general legal advice (where required) and the follow-up in respect of the matters thereof.
  • Providing general and specific legal advice to the companies within the group on corporate and litigation matters.
  • Drafting of legal documents using well set precedents to safeguard the interests of the LGB group of companies.
  • Reviewing and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Vetting and perusing legal documents, either prepared internally or prepared by external parties to safeguard the interests of the group.
  • Delegating, supervising and reviewing work done/carried out by subordinates within the department.
  • Dealing, instructing, liaising with external solicitors on various legal documentation and on specific projects.
  • Providing accurate, relevant and timely advise to the business division within the LGB group of companies on a variety of legal topics that relate to the business sectors and their products and/or services.
  • Instructing the Legal Administration staff in connection with the Group Legal Department daily matters.
  • Following-up and liaising with external solicitors on litigation matters involving companies within the LGB group of companies;
  • Assisting in the maintenance of a central (database) tracking/checklist system for filing, record keeping, work status updates, precedents, e-library, approval and other administrative processes for the smooth, proper and efficient functioning of the department.

Requirement and Skills

  • Minimum academic qualifications of LLB (Hons) and called to the Malaysian Bar.
  • PQE of at least 4 to 10 years in reputable legal firms or in-house legal departments.
  • Experience in corporate and commercial law is preferred.
  • Exposure in litigation matters and the legal framework of other jurisdictions such as China, London, Japan and Singapore would be an added advantage.
  • Strong and clear communication skills to handle all ranks of people and counterparties.
  • Flexible to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules and priorities.
  • Good knowledge of legal principles and the laws of Malaysia.
  • Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is mandatory.
  • Position and salary will commensurate work experience and level of responsibility.
