The Role:

The Plant General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing plant operations, managing customer relationships, and ensuring the overall profitability of the business. This role involves leading the plant team to achieve production targets, maintaining the highest standards of quality, and taking full accountability for the company’s P&L. The Plant GM will work closely with the Board of Directors, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to drive growth and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Provide strategic leadership to the plant, setting clear objectives and aligning the team with both operational goals and business growth targets. Foster a culture of excellence and accountability across all functions.
  • Operations Management: Oversee all aspects of plant operations, including production, scheduling, and process optimization. Ensure that production targets are met while maintaining efficiency and high-quality standards.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact for key customers. Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality products, meeting delivery deadlines, and addressing any concerns or issues. Work closely with customers to understand their needs and align plant operations to meet their expectations.
  • P&L Accountability: Take full responsibility for the plant’s financial performance, including revenue, cost management, and profitability. Develop strategies to meet financial goals, drive revenue growth, and optimize cost structures.
  • Quality Control: Establish and maintain rigorous quality control standards. Continuously monitor production to ensure all products meet or exceed customer expectations, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Safety and Compliance: Promote a culture of safety by implementing and enforcing safety protocols. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and conduct regular safety audits to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Develop, manage, and monitor the plant’s budget. Identify opportunities for cost reduction, resource optimization, and efficiency improvements to drive profitability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance, operational effectiveness, and customer satisfaction. Implement lean manufacturing principles and innovative practices.
  • Team Development: Build, develop, and lead a high-performing team. Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and ensure professional growth through training and development opportunities.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, maintenance, and logistics, to address operational challenges and align on business objectives. Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to ensure seamless customer experiences.
  • Business Development: Identify opportunities for business growth and expansion by leveraging customer relationships and market insights. Develop and implement strategies to grow market share and expand the plant’s customer base.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Drive environmentally sustainable initiatives within the plant, focusing on reducing waste, conserving energy, and promoting recycling efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, Operations Management, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in a senior leadership role within a manufacturing environment, with responsibility for both operational management and business P&L.
  • Strong expertise in manufacturing processes, quality control, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Proven ability to manage customer relationships and deliver high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving business growth, managing P&L, and achieving financial targets.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a proven ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, compliance standards, and financial management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Familiarity with environmental sustainability practices is a plus.
