Energy Planning and Optimization (EP&O) is housed within the Strategy and Portfolio function, and acts as an internal advisor to the Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Business units of the Gentari Group. The EP&O team supports the business units in fleshing out the optimized technology mix for project appraisal opportunities in Malaysia, India and Australia. Additionally, the EP&O team prepares and delivers long-term scenario-based forecast of prices for Australia, which enables the business in projecting asset revenue and value new investments in the market.

The individual in this role will support the Power Modelling Manager in the development and maintenance of the PLEXOS models, along with other modelling tools that are under development, that are used to estimate the optimized technology mix for proposed projects, long term price forecast for some of Gentari’s key markets - Australia and India to begin with, and capacity expansion planning models for key markets to understand the market potential, appetite for new investments and to assess the impact of key policy shifts in the market.

The role will involve working with the Strategy and Portfolio team as well as teams across the wider business units to ensure that Gentari’s modelling meets the needs of the internal customers.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of Gentari’s long term power market modelling.
  • Work closely with businesses to provide the commercial analytical support required to underpin long-term investment decisions, asset valuation and other strategic decision making.
  • Develop, operate and maintain long-term fundamental models for a range of power markets and purposes.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to ensure modelling approaches and assumptions are aligned with market realities and the impact of these assumptions are understood by our stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, Economics) or advanced degree (e.g., MBA)
  • Minimum 5 years in a similar capacity.
  • Understanding of the electricity markets - at-least in one of our major markets (India, Malaysia or Australia).
  • Good business acumen and commercial awareness; able to focus on commercial insights gained through modelling.
  • Prior experience in using power system modelling tools, preferably PLEXOS
  • Ability to use Python or other languages would be strongly beneficial.
  • Self-driven and can work without limited supervision.
