We are seeking a Strategic Procurement Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic sourcing plans, managing supplier relationships at international level, and ensuring cost-effective procurement of high-quality packaging materials and production machines - while ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
The Procurement Manager will be responsible to manage and oversee procurement activities for both products and services for our paper conversion facility in Malaysia. We expect the candidate to have the energy, adaptability, and innovative mindset needed to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
The role requires strategic thinking, a focus on continuous improvement, and the ability to drive procurement initiatives that support production and maintenance teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Procurement of Materials and Equipment:
- Proactively source, negotiate, and procure raw materials (e.g., Kraft paper), packaging consumables spare parts, to support the production and maintenance operations.
- Monitor critical components and consumables, ensuring timely replenishment and minimizing downtime.
- Stay ahead of market trends, pricing shifts, and supplier innovations to secure cost-effective agreements that benefit the company.
Dynamic Supplier Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain robust relationships with suppliers, focusing on long-term partnerships and consistent material supply.
- Regularly evaluate and audit suppliers to ensure adherence to regulatory compliance, quality, delivery, and cost standards, and introduce new suppliers to enhance the supply chain.
- Actively seek out and qualify alternative suppliers to ensure resilience and mitigate potential risks.
Efficient Inventory and Material Management:
- Collaborate closely with the warehouse team to optimize stock levels, implementing strategies such as just-in-time (JIT) inventory.
- Lead regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies, ensuring accurate tracking of materials to minimize excess holding costs.
Cost Control and Budget Management:
- Innovate ways to reduce procurement costs, identifying and leveraging opportunities for cost savings through negotiations, better supplier deals, and process improvements.
- Provide insightful reports on procurement spend, highlighting variance analysis between budgeted and actual expenditures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Problem-Solving:
- Work effectively with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to understand material requirements and ensure prompt delivery of essential components.
- Coordinate with logistics and warehouse teams to streamline shipment tracking, delivery schedules, and resolve supply chain disruptions swiftly.
- Regularly update senior management on procurement status, supplier performance, and potential risks, with solutions in mind.
- Verify supplier invoices against GRN, matched with PO issued, hand to Finance for account payable process and maintain a good records of purchased up to date for tracking purpose.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure all procurement activities align with company policies and local regulatory standards, including health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Identify risks in the supply chain, such as supplier reliability and material shortages, and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
- Collaborate with the legal department to review contracts, ensuring robust procurement agreements that meet local laws and safeguard company interests.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Lead initiatives to enhance procurement efficiency, driving improvements in supplier performance, cost control, and workflow streamlining.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements, bringing fresh ideas to optimize material sourcing and procurement strategies.
- Actively participate in projects that increase transparency, collaboration, and efficiency across the supply chain.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Procurement, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven working experience with a minimum of 5 years of managerial roles in procurement or buying, preferably in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, vendor management, and contract negotiation.
- Proven ability to source raw materials, industrial parts, and services, with a focus on efficiency and cost reduction.
- Experience in SAP systems and procurement software.
- Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems quickly, focusing on cost optimization and supplier performance.
- Familiarity with local trade regulations and import/export procedures in Malaysia.
- Adaptable and proactive, with a drive for continuous improvement and a high level of integrity.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Solid judgement along with decision making skills.
