Summary of the role

The position of Senior Retail Designer, Southeast Asia is a key role in the future expansion of JD sports across the Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and wider APAC territories. Working as part of the Property Design Team, this position necessitates a high principle of design standards with the creative ability to develop each store design on a project-by-project basis using the agreed store grading guidelines. Strong leadership, communication and reporting skills are essential as is proven experience in a sports-fashion environment, designing and delivering stores within the Southeast Asia territories.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead design projects taking projects from brief through to completion
  • Attendance of strategy meetings to obtain design briefs and general direction of projects
  • Assist with the on-going development of the JD Store design specific to the marketplace
  • Liaising with key project stakeholders at varying stages of projects, working closely with internal departments (Acquisitions team, Project managers, Quantity surveyors, Retail, Merchandising, Marketing, Multichannel, IT, Security, Health and Safety etc.)
  • Coordinate meetings to present store designs and obtain approval / feedback
  • Attend site meetings; talking through the design with the project delivery team, check surveys and record site information, ensuring all data is up to date in all documentation
  • Set up drawings in AutoCAD using landlords or survey information ensuring all work is accurate
  • Space plan merchandise layouts using a design brief and option targets
  • Production of detailed plans, shop fronts, sections and elevations for proposed store designs and site-specific details where required
  • Liaise with external professional agencies such as architects, MEP and structural engineers, permitting departments in order to obtain statutory approvals
  • Offer assistance and support to the global design studio to support workload in other regions as / when time permits
  • Partner with the HQ graphics team to deliver project specific design
  • Proven experience in managing and delivering diverse design projects across Southeast Asia, with a minimum of experience in Malaysia.
  • Strong retail and commercial awareness, specifically within the sports fashion industry
  • Proven experience at all stages of the design process, from conception through to implementation
  • Experience and understanding of the inner workings of both adidas and Nike sports brands, particularly from a wholesale and shop in shops development perspective
  • Ability to negotiate and influence at all levels
  • Plan work streams and set deadlines
  • Manage budgets and forecast costs
  • Interpret briefs accurately and work efficiently to deadlines
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Self-motivated and driven, with the ability to manage own workload to deadlines
  • Strong retail and commercial awareness
  • Detailed understanding of construction or shop fitting coupled with a strong understanding of permit and building regulations within Southeast Asia territories
  • Must hold a valid passport and be prepared to travel internationally
  • Strong spatial awareness
  • Be prepared to travel and stay away from home when necessary

Skills:

  • Expert in visual rendering and 3D modelling
  • Expert level AutoCAD with working knowledge of how to build dynamic blocks
  • Expert in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Ability to use all Microsoft Office programs

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Interior Design or Architecture
  • Minimum 8 years practical experience within the design or architecture sector
  • Minimum 5 years experience of retail design and must have sports-fashion experience
