Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Director in Chemical Engineering to lead the design, development, and construction of a chemical goods warehouse in Malaysia. This role requires a deep understanding of chemical storage, distribution, and safety regulations, along with significant experience managing complex, large-scale engineering projects within highly regulated environments. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in designing and implementing chemical storage facilities, along with a strong grasp of regional compliance requirements, and will oversee all phases of this warehouse project - from initial design through to final handover -ensuring safety, compliance, and operational excellence at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design and construction process for chemical goods warehouses, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with regional standards.
- Collaborate with architects, project managers and designers to develop optimized warehouse layouts suitable for chemical storage and distribution.
- Incorporate best practices and emerging technologies into design and construction plans to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure all projects align with industry safety standards, including chemical handling, hazardous material storage, and fire protection requirements.
- Stay current with regulatory updates across Asia Pacific and implement necessary adjustments to warehouse protocols and designs.
- Promote a culture of safety within the project team, implementing industry-leading safety practices and rigorous training programs.
- Oversee the engineering and construction phases, maintaining timelines, budgets, and resources.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, logistics, and regulatory affairs, to support project delivery.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure chemical handling and storage meet the highest industry standards.
- Conduct risk assessments for potential safety hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Continuously evaluate warehouse design and construction methods, recommending improvements for safety, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Leverage emerging technologies to optimize the storage and distribution of chemical goods.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Process and or Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in chemical storage, engineering, or similar fields, with hands-on experience in warehouse or industrial facility development in the Asia Pacific region. Previous experience in consultancy firm a plus
- Experience with local regulations for dangerous goods storage and handling
- Strong knowledge of land zoning, site selection, chemical goods regulations, occupation health environment and safety standards, fire codes and compliance in APAC.
- Project management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Safety Engineering, Hazardous Material Handling) are an advantage.
