The Trekking Guide executes educational trekking activities for the enhancement of the guest’s experience at The Datai. The incumbent is passionate about biodiversity and possess the creativity to convey knowledge from scientific literature and practices in an informal setting to a crowd of varying demographics. The Trekking Guide is an informal educator carrying out eco- and nature-based tourism in the form of interpretive walks with messages of conservation. The Trekking Guide is an experienced birder and jungle trekker.

The Trekking Guide will be completely familiar with all Trails and ensure safety procedures are always followed. The Trekker will maintain the trails and signages, and report any maintenance or landscape issues to the appropriate department if cannot be dealt with immediately.

The Trekking Guide practices and promotes the overall philosophy and services of The Datai in order to reinforce the reputation and profile of The Datai whilst providing guest service excellence. The Trekking Guide supports the Nature Centre Team in maintaining marketing objectives, operating criteria, programming, staff relations, and miscellaneous administrative work.

1. To personally network at all levels with individuals from both inside and outside the company structure for the further development of The Nature Centre and Wellness Department.

2. Actively promote the Trails and also the Nature Centre services, products and activities.

3. Assist in achieving established sales targets by actively promoting Nature Centre services, products and activities.

1. Lead and execute established jungle treks for the guests and ensure there is consistency for each experience

2. Maintain the trails to ensure they are safe and well-kept for guest activities

3. To interact professionally with guests and members of staff and handle enquiries in a positive and solutions-based outcome.

4. To assist in maintaining and monitoring stock inventory and ensure a reputable relationship with vendors

5. Assist with the upkeep of the Native Tree Nursery and Orchid Nursery

6. Assist with collecting seeds at requested times of the year

7. To constantly be aware of local and global ecological systems and best practices as well as local biological and cultural site histories and practices.

8. To support and actively participate in the 'Datai Trust' sustainability objectives including their CSR initiatives.

1. Maintains highest levels of personal hygiene and grooming at all times, per The Datai Grooming standard.

2. To conduct regular daily inspections to monitor maintenance, cleanliness, health and safety and security of the listed Trails.

3. To be knowledgeable of the contraindications of services and products and act in accordance.

4. To be fully conversant with all health and safety, fire and emergency procedures.

5. To ensure the safety of participants on all guest activities.

1. To adhere to all resort HR policies and procedures.

2. To take part in training, familiarisation and induction programs and continuously strives to enhance knowledge of the job function.

3. To be courteous to other team members and colleagues of other departments at all times.

4. To provide an effective structure for communication within The Nature Centre at all levels.

5. Participate in monthly/weekly briefings with the team.

6. To maintain a high standard of appearance and personal hygiene as laid down by the Director Spa & Wellness and per The Datai Grooming standard.

7. Ensures that channels of communication are respected and information is disseminated to the correct receivers.

1. As The Datai Langkawi continues to improve its practices in keeping its eco-friendly persona, the Trekking Guide will contribute in future sustainability and conservation efforts in the resort.

1. To perform any additional duties as may be requested by Management.

1. Adheres to all organizational policies and standards.

2. Knowledgeable about the facilities and services provided by the Resort.

3. Performs flexibility with working additional hours.

4. At all times to project a favorable image of The Nature Centre Team to the rest of the resort and Public.

5. Handles any guest’s complaint in a professional manner, per resort’s Policy & Procedure (service recovery).

6. Knows and applies resort’s Policies & Procedures, including those for the emergency situations.

7. Ensures all fixed assets are well maintained.

8. Demonstrates knowledge and interest in goals, and objectives of The Datai brand.

9. Ensures all activities are carried out honestly, ethically and within the parameters of the Malaysian Law.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: RM2,500.00 - RM2,800.00 per month
