Job Summary:
As a Senior R&D Chemist, you will be a key driver in developing and optimizing innovative baby care, personal care, and skincare products. This role combines formulation expertise with cross-functional leadership to create high-quality, scalable products that meet evolving market demands. You’ll be responsible for driving formulation innovation, sourcing novel raw materials, ensuring regulatory compliance, and streamlining production processes for consistent, high-performance products. Additionally, you will manage complex projects from concept to launch and mentor junior chemists to support their growth and enhance team effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
Formulation Development & Innovation
- Lead formulation design and innovation for new products, aligning with market trends and customer needs.
- Research and apply cutting-edge raw materials and technologies to enhance product efficacy, sustainability, and competitive differentiation.
- Develop cost-effective, high-quality formulations that adhere to safety and performance standards.
Production Process Optimization
- Collaborate closely with production teams to ensure formulations are optimized for scalable, efficient mass production.
- Refine processes to minimize bottlenecks, improve batch consistency, and ensure smooth transitions from lab-scale to factory-scale production.
- Conduct pilot production trials to validate formulation processes for seamless upscaling.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Oversee sample testing to ensure that all formulations meet safety, efficacy, and performance benchmarks.
- Conduct stability testing to guarantee product longevity and packaging compatibility.
- Partner with third-party labs for performance and efficacy validations to substantiate product claims.
Regulatory Compliance & Market Claims
- Ensure formulations comply with regulatory standards and support desired market claims (e.g., moisturizing, soothing).
- Work with regulatory teams to document and meet labeling requirements for local and international markets.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and consumer trends, adjusting formulations as necessary to maintain alignment.
Raw Material Innovation & Optimization
- Continuously source innovative raw materials, building strong relationships with suppliers to stay ahead of industry trends.
- Optimize raw material selection for balanced cost, performance, and sustainability, ensuring each formulation meets high-quality standards.
Project Management
- Lead multiple product development projects from concept through commercialization, managing timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Set clear project milestones and monitor progress, proactively addressing any potential issues to maintain momentum and meet deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status and ensuring alignment on goals, priorities, and deliverables.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with production, procurement, and quality control teams to ensure formulations are manufacturable, cost-effective, and high-quality.
- Work with marketing teams to integrate customer insights and market trends into the formulation process.
- Provide technical support for product launches and ongoing lifecycle management.
Process Improvement & Documentation
- Regularly review and refine formulation processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality.
- Implement continuous improvements to drive production scalability, reduce costs, and streamline documentation for process changes.
Continuous Product Enhancement
- Monitor product performance post-launch, incorporating feedback to improve existing formulations.
- Adapt formulations to meet shifting consumer preferences, maintaining product competitiveness and market relevance.
Mentorship & Coaching
- Mentor and coach junior formulators, providing guidance on formulation techniques, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge-sharing, creativity, and continuous learning within the team.
- Conduct regular check-ins to support the professional development of junior team members, helping them build technical skills and confidence in independent formulation work.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field.
- Industry Experience: 5+ years in formulation development, ideally within baby care, personal care, or skincare.
- Technical Expertise: Proven track record in raw material innovation, formulation design, stability testing, and process optimization for mass production.
- Cross-Departmental Skills: Strong ability to collaborate effectively across production, quality control, and marketing.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with a proactive approach to identifying and solving formulation challenges.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, ensuring attention to detail and adherence to timelines.
