Job Purpose To provide highly quality veterinary services to clients and their animals. To continuously develop personal clinical skills, to achieve practice goals and to communicate effectively with clients and the team. Maintain animal health by diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries. Determine the nature of disease or injury by examining pets and/or large animals. Restore animal health by treating animal surgically or medically. Primary duties and responsibilities: • A vet is responsible for the medical and surgical treatment of a range of animals including domestic and farm animals. A Vet also works to prevent disease in animals and the spread to other animals. • Consulting pets brought to clinic and to brief the pet owners on the sickness of their pets • Handling, examining and treating all species of animals, including domestic animals and farm livestock. • Carrying out tests such as X-rays, blood samples and ultrasound scans. • Euthanizing old and terminally ill animals • Performing surgical operations especially surgeries in gynecology including managing Anaesthesia • Working on out-of-hours emergency cases when on-call • To perform Spay and Neuter procedures and animal birth control surgeries. • Inserting identification microchips • Maintaining up-to-date records of patients • Prescribing medication to the animals treated. • Promoting surgery to potential clients, training and managing veterinary nurses and relevant staffs in the practise. • As a veterinary surgeon you must also be sensitive to the needs of the owners and help them to understand the important role they play in their animals' recovery. • To perform CPCR in small animals • Conducting artificial ventilation • Conducting blood transfusion • Improving patient’s dental health by performing checkups and cleaning and extracting teeth. • Providing out-of-hours emergency cover. • Providing appropriate care to in-patient animals including dressing and changing wounds maintaining appropriate records and providing administrative support. • Promoting preventative care by advocating and administering routine vaccinations and by educating clients on positive diet and lifestyle choices for pets • Assist in orthopaedic surgeries that include intramedullary pinning, wiring, plating and TWRS. • Draft case reports • To train and develop staff members to enable them to carry out their role • Assessing fluid requirement following blood gas analysis • House visits • Investigate procedures • Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, dressing wounds, performing surgery and setting bones. • To present a caring, professional attitude to clients and works closely with other veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and other staffs • To communicate promptly and effectively with clients regarding progress of hospitalized patients and reporting of laboratory results • To regularly undertake CPD in order to maintain and increase veterinary skills and knowledge • Assist in orthopaedic surgeries that include intramedullary pinning, wiring, plating and TWRS. • Supervise post-operative care To perform surgery and treatment in Gyneacology & Obsetetrics and related. • To make use of internal or external referral services as appropriate and seek the advice or assistance of Senior Vets when needed. • Provide input and communicate any issues regarding the clinic’s disease control protocols, surgical protocols, or other medical issues at regular Veterinarian meetings or with the Medical Director as appropriate • To follow practice protocols
