Job Description:
As a Business Development Manager, your primary role will be to secure consultancy work for industrial projects in Malaysia. This includes a range of consultancy services such as Architectural, Building Services, Sustainability, Safety Design, Project Management, Cost Management, and Construction Management. To achieve this, you will need a deep understanding of the industrial market's dynamics and growth potential in Malaysia, with a broader awareness of global trends. You will build a strong professional network and relationships with key industrial clients, identifying areas of market growth and opportunity to pursue Requests for Proposals (RFPs). You will also drive the bidding process in collaboration with the bid team, selecting project team candidates, developing proposals, attending interviews and presentations, and ultimately positioning the company to win projects.
In addition, you will lead the initial phases of any awarded project until the project team is established and operating smoothly, and you will maintain the client relationship as a Client Liaison throughout the project's lifecycle.
To support these primary responsibilities, you will also help manage existing client relationships, working closely with business unit heads, account managers, and the Regional Director to clarify customer requirements and secure the appropriate resources and support to develop, price, and deliver customized solutions.
You will be actively involved in business development activities, identifying opportunities to connect with potential clients and partners and implementing strategies to foster growth. You will also create marketing strategies to strengthen the pipeline of new and ongoing business through direct and indirect client engagement. Building rapport with clients will be essential, and networking outside the office will be a key aspect of your role. Travel is expected as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on prospective accounts within target markets, pursue leads, and close agreements successfully.
- Perform market analysis of target sectors, including competitor evaluation and strategic geographic expansion.
- Identify business opportunities by assessing potential clients' positions in the industry, local operations, growth objectives, key contacts, and targeted market strategies.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of our services, competition, and positioning within the industry.
- Build and maintain client relationships by providing timely support, information, and guidance.
- Provide feedback from prospective and current clients to improve service delivery.
- Monitor competitor activities, potential partnerships, and market threats and opportunities.
- Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing relevant information.
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively, with strong presentation skills.
- Lead bid preparations, submissions, and presentations to clients.
- Participate in negotiations and close sales agreements.
- Meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Oversee project setup until the team is fully established, then transition to a Client Liaison role.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Over 15 years of experience in business development, with proven experience on at least one greenfield and one brownfield data center project.
- Demonstrated experience and success in bidding and winning projects.
- Strong understanding of industrial project requirements, with the ability to convey technical knowledge effectively.
- Expertise in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works, particularly mechanical and electrical, is highly desirable.
- Relevant qualifications and industry-specific accreditations are advantageous.
- Proven ability in complex solution selling.
- Skilled in building and maintaining client relationships.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Excellent communication skills, both with external clients and internal teams
