Job Summary

The Bucket Specialist specializes on performing tasks such as replacement and repair works on Gas and steam turbine Rotors and stator parts. These components are often on critical path which results in the technician working within a tight schedule. The Bucket Specialist II utilizes general knowledge and experience previously gained working with heavy duty gas and steam turbines. The Bucket Specialist II works in alignment to the site lead and the shift Bucket lead with daily co-ordination meetings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Inspection, repair and Installation and machining of different types of tangential entry/axial entry buckets/blades
  • Familiar with machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, punch press, hand/power tools associated with grinding, deburring and metal forming, etc.
  • Able to use common precision measuring instruments and hand tools such as tape measure, level, square, file or rasp, etc.
  • Ability to read, understands, and follows company repair procedures and directions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical drawings relating to their work.
  • Knowledge of fluorescent die penetration inspection for cracks not visible
  • Understand and adhere to the requirements for working safely as a GT Bucket/blade technician
  • Able to evaluate and mitigate safety risks before beginning task/ work
  • Understand the importance of quality and error prevention when planning and executing work tasks
  • Understand field procedures, the importance of using the latest version of controlled documents and the importance of reporting observed defects.
  • Ability to write Bucket/blade report in detail following an outage in relation to work that has been carried out.
  • Able to communicate with the Customer.
  • Be aware of the various roles in a maintenance project and understands specifically the role of GT bucket blade technician.
  • Proficient in the utilization of field procedures when planning and performing work
  • Know how to properly fill out required inspection and repair documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Travel may be required
  • Ability and willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required by field assignments

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or associate degree in Technical Field, Gas Turbine Systems Technician preferred
  • 3 years’ experience as mechanical technician.
  • 1 years’ experience as Bucket Specialist I
  • Experience working with hand and power tools as well as measurement tools
  • Must demonstrate ability to understand, read and interpret technical drawings
  • English proficiency required

  • Demonstrate proficiency, through formal training class attendance and positive Task Performance Evaluation results, in the technical capability requirements of tool usage, basic machining, grinding, etc., and other activities related to the following GTBT workscope(s):
    • E & F Class Compressor Blade Shim Pinning
    • F-Class R0 & R17 Compressor Blade Change Out
    • F-Class Bucket Change Out
    • Frame 7/9 E & B Class Bucket Change Out
    • E/B/F Class Compressor Blade Blending
    • Frame 6 B Class Bucket Change Out
  • OR related to the following Alstom work scopes:
    • Alstom Base Fleet – GT8C, GT9, GT 11N, GT 13D
    • Alstom E Fleet – GT 13E2
    • Alstom F Fleet – GT24, GT26
  • Has a solid foundation of basic GE Heavy Duty Gas Turbine compressor and turbine technical knowledge
  • Must be able to understand and implement technical procedures and have strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and computer skills
  • Excellent customer, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
