Job Summary

The Purchasing Officer is responsible for negotiating and purchasing surgical and medical supplies. The Purchasing Officer also sources medical equipment as requested and approved by end-users and management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for efficiently carrying out activities for purchasing of all non-pharmaceutical items for Hospital use.
  • Liaison with suppliers and vendors for quotations and negotiate price.
  • To keep inventory level of stock, identify foreign and domestic suppliers and keep abreast of
  • changes of products and materials
  • To track market conditions, price trends or future markets of hospital products and services.
  • To train and supervise clerk to handle goods and service and ensure correct procedure and maintain.
  • accurate records of all purchases.
  • To participate in providing opinions on the selection of suppliers to the management.
  • To work closely with other Pantai Hospitals on bulk purchasing and other products or services.
  • To arrange for product demonstrations when necessary.
  • Be informed of the latest trends in products or services.
  • To check on competition buying and selling activities and watch general economic condition to anticipate patients ‘willing to pay’ behavior and buying patterns.
  • To optimize usage of computer systems to obtain instant and accurate product and price listings, to track inventory levels and process routine orders.

  • To monitor and evaluate suppliers’ performance and maintain good rapport with them to ensure continuous supply and reliable service.
  • Maintain relevant records and documents in the department.
  • Responsible for the effective implementation of all policies and procedures within the unit.
  • Participate in an ongoing review of practices and procedures of purchasing and recommend improvement as necessary.

Requirement

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Purchasing or related field / service industry.
  • Preferably in healthcare / hotel and related services industries.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with people.
  • Working technical knowledge of hospital goods and services to be purchased.
  • Computer literate.
  • Good negotiation skills.

Education Background

  • Diploma / Degree in related field
