Microbiologist (Field Work)

• Ensuring that analytical procedures and associated tasks assigned are conducted in accordance with the ALS Quality Work Instructions including QA/QC. • Preparing media required for daily operation and ensuring all logbooks for media preparation are updated. • Performing tests on all samples for microbiological testing which include: - sample preparation - analysis - transferring and subculturing - confirmation (when necessary) • Optimizing turnaround time for samples whilst ensuring the highest quality of results is achieved and maintained. • Preparing raw data sheets for samples tested. • Reading plates and recording the results on raw data sheets and entering final results into LIMS. • Reporting unusual results or problems to senior staff or Lab Manager. • Ensuring adequate stocks of media and consumables are maintained for smooth daily operation. • Ensuring housekeeping of laboratory including:- - cleaning of benches - cleaning of work area - wash-up procedures - cleaning of equipment - sample retention - sample disposal after retention period • Other duties specified by the Lab Manager relating to this position. - Ability to work under presssure - Ability to work long hours, during weekends and public holidays if required
