Job Summary The Handyman is responsible for performing a variety of repair, maintenance, and improvement tasks across various facilities. This includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and general upkeep to ensure that all systems and structures are functioning efficiently and safely. The role requires someone who is versatile and can work independently or as part of a team. Key Responsibilities General Repairs Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks such as fixing doors, windows, and furniture. Address issues related to plumbing, electrical wiring, and basic structural repairs. Troubleshoot and repair broken appliances and equipment where necessary. Plumbing Fix leaking pipes, clogged drains, and malfunctioning water systems. Install or repair taps, toilets, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures. Electrical Conduct minor electrical repairs like replacing light bulbs, sockets, and switches. Assist in more complex electrical repairs under the supervision of a certified electrician. Carpentry and Painting Perform minor carpentry tasks such as fixing or installing shelves, doors, and other wooden structures. Patch holes and paint walls, ceilings, and other surfaces to ensure a neat and professional finish. Preventative Maintenance Regularly inspect buildings, facilities, and equipment for potential problems or issues. Perform preventative maintenance tasks to avoid major breakdowns or repairs in the future. Outdoor Maintenance Perform minor landscaping tasks, including trimming, cleaning, and maintaining outdoor areas. Repair or maintain fences, gates, and other external structures. Safety Compliance Ensure that all repairs and maintenance work adhere to safety standards and regulations. Identify any potential safety hazards and address them promptly. Tool and Material Management Maintain an inventory of tools and supplies. Ensure that tools are in good working condition and notify the supervisor of any need for repairs or replacements. Customer Service Respond to maintenance requests from occupants or management in a timely and courteous manner. Communicate clearly with supervisors or clients to understand repair needs and solutions. Record Keeping Maintain records of completed tasks and report on any major issues or future maintenance needs. Provide regular updates to supervisors on ongoing projects. Requirements Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Any vocational training or certification is a plus. Experience: Proven experience as a handyman or in a similar role with knowledge of basic maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting. Skills: Proficient in various repair and maintenance tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting. Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs). Comfortable working in various environments (indoor and outdoor). Ability to work on ladders, in tight spaces, and on your feet for extended periods. Personal Attributes Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated. Good communication and customer service skills. Strong work ethic and attention to safety.
