North Borneo Gold Sdn Bhd (NBG) is a gold exploration company with resource assets located within the Bau district, a Head Office in Kuching CBD and Exploration Office in Bau Township. NBG is 98.5% owned and controlled by Besra Gold Incorporated a Canadian registered public company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. Main activity for the company at present includes exploration drilling at the Jugan Project located at Jugan Hill located between Bau and Kuching.
The Role
The Community and Government Relationship Manager will act as a conduit between the Company and its external stakeholders, including community groups and government administration, policy and decision makers within the Bau District and Sarawak State Government.
This is a key role for NBG which is ideally suited to an applicant that has previously served in a similar role, preferably in Sarawak State. As a mining sector participant, the role will entail a strong commitment to ESG policies underpinning the establishment of new, and maintenance of existing Company relationships with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government bodies, industry partners, and environmental organisations.
Initially, the focus will be maintaining liaison with regulatory agencies and government officials to ensure compliance and securing the necessary mining permits and approvals in accordance with State and Federal ordinances.

Reporting
The role reports to the Managing Director NBG and works closely with existing NBG and Besra senior management, as well as the company’s lawyers.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact between the Company and all key stakeholder groups.
- Organize regular meetings, forums, or events to facilitate communication and collaboration to ensure the Company can achieve its goals in a timely manner.
- Plan, co-ordinate and execute stakeholder engagement activities.
- Identify initiatives that support the Company’s ESG policies and benefit the community, such as education, health, infrastructure, or environmental projects.
- Provide weekly updates on status of activities, as well as short- and long-term objectives.
- Ensure strict compliance with relevant legislation in all dealings with stakeholders, noting Besra is a publicly listed company.
- Ensure compliance of Community and Government expectations by the Company’s employees, contract providers and suppliers at all operating sites.

- Advanced communication and negotiation skills with a strong ability to articulate ideas clearly at a senior level in public forums, meetings and negotiations.
- Extensive knowledge of local customs and community dynamics.
- Ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with community leaders, government officials, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver clear, consistent messaging about the organization's goals, projects, and activities.
- Exercise a strong sense of emotional intelligence and demonstrated networking skills to establish build or maintain connections with key decision-makers and influencers.
- Good working knowledge of government decision making ecosystems at District and State levels and an ability to navigate these whilst maintaining the highest levels of probity with a commitment to transparency and honesty.
- Well organised, and able to prioritise tasks in line with company objectives.
Experience and Qualifications
- Tertiary degree qualified with minimum 20 years’ experience in their profession.
- A well-respected member of the local community.
- Extensive experience in the legal profession, senior government or administrative role will be highly regarded.
