Plan and provide geotechnical engineering know-how and lead on a range of civil engineering projects that would involve managing or supervising pre-engineering and construction works, performing civil and geotechnical engineering studies, analysis, audits, or reviews, conducting geotechnical investigations, providing design solutions, and making recommendations to result in the safe and efficient construction of infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Plan, manage or lead site geotechnical investigations works such as topographic survey, soil investigation, geological studies or geophysical survey, examining the site’s composition of naturally occurring formations, site characterization, field testing and laboratory testing for data collection, inclusive of instrumentation monitoring and geophysical surveys to identify potential geotechnical hazards and ensure the safety of site projects.
- Oversee geotechnical aspects of construction projects, including monitoring earthworks, foundation installations, slope stabilization works, and any other geotechnical works, are in accordance with the design specifications, relevant codes and standards, and industry best practices to resolve any geotechnical issues that arise during construction and to contribute to smooth and safe project completion.
- Prepare and develop geotechnical recommendations such as foundation design solutions, slope stabilization measures, earthworks design, ground models and geotechnical design parameters that involves carrying out site assessment, detailed design, auditing or review, feasibility studies and costing of geotechnical and other civil works to provide cost-effective and technically sound solutions that are feasible and suitable for the site's conditions, mitigating geotechnical risks, and meeting the required standards.
- Prepare, perform or guide geotechnical analysis such as slope stability, settlement, properties of soil, rocks, and additional materials as well as liquefaction to evaluate geotechnical risks and support in determining the optimum short-term and long-term construction strategies. Prepare, submit or review reports and drawings for engineering consultancy works based on sound geotechnical analysis to provide clients with accurate and comprehensive information regarding the geotechnical aspects of the project.
- Liaise and collaborate with other project team members including assisting the Head of Department in coordinating, managing, and planning on assigned projects to contribute to the safe and efficient execution of geotechnical works on construction projects, and mitigate any potential risks or delays, and proactively identify and resolve any technical issues that may arise.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with clients and stakeholders including making evidence-based presentations to regulators, authorities, and company management to establish effective communication and management of related geotechnical risks. Collaborate and work closely with clients, contractors, vendors, third-party labs, regulators, authorities, and company management to identify and mitigate geotechnical risks, satisfy clients' expectations, and contribute to the completion of projects to the highest standards.
- Assist Head of Department in business development efforts and preparing high-quality technical and financial proposals that meet the client's needs and requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum Master of Science in Engineering (Civil). Preference for specialization in Geotechnical.
- 15 years of working experience with a minimum of 10 years in the design/ construction of geotechnical works.
- Familiar with geotechnical design software such as Geostudio and PLAXIS.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, having initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as make proficient observations and insights.
