Supplier Quality Engineer
Drive supplier capability and performance to meet or exceed Smith & Nephew Malaysia's quality, delivery, and cost standards.
What will you be doing?
Handle supplier files and electronic databases while driving supplier quality improvement initiatives. This includes issuing Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs), facilitating kaizen workshops, and ensuring continuous improvement in supplier quality levels to reduce defects and associated costs.
Lead new supplier qualifications, conduct supplier audits, and assess technical capabilities to ensure compliance with Smith & Nephew's product standards. This involves evaluating supplier processes, writing audit reports, and tracking corrective actions to closure. Verification and validation requirements for newly sourced parts are also defined and handled.
Collaborate with suppliers to address quality, delivery, and cost issues. Conduct on-site problem-solving and train suppliers on quality tools like PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, 5-Why, and 8D. Utilize statistical techniques to analyze data, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement. Supplier quality risk management and mitigation strategies are also established and maintained.
What will you need to be successful?
A bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Material Engineering is required. Candidates must be certified as ISO 13485, TS16949, and AS9100 Quality Auditors. A Six Sigma Black Belt background is a significant advantage for this role.
Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in quality management within multinational or local companies, with a solid understanding of QMS standards (ISO 13485 or equivalent). Experience in supplier audits, supplier capability assessments, and supplier process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) is essential. Proficiency in quality tools such as PFMEA, SPC, Control Plans, and MSA is required, along with hands-on experience in problem-solving methods like 5-Why and 8D reporting. Strong leadership, communication, and English language skills are essential.
The role involves driving supplier quality performance, conducting new supplier audits, and leading supplier risk mitigation initiatives. Candidates should have experience handling supplier qualifications, problem-solving, and continuous improvement efforts. Physical demands are tied to achieving supplier quality performance goals and completing work plans, with a 25–50% travel requirement.
