Role summary We are seeking an experienced Data Center Project Manager to lead and manage the end-to-end delivery of data center projects, from initiation to commissioning and final handover. The successful candidate will oversee the planning, execution, and completion of data center construction and infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. This role will require expertise in both project management and commissioning of critical systems, including electrical, mechanical, cooling, and fire suppression systems. Key responsibilities ? Project Planning & Coordination: • Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets for the design, construction, commissioning, and delivery of data center facilities. • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, contractors, vendors, and client representatives to ensure seamless project execution. • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and milestones, and ensure alignment with client expectations. ? Execution & Management: • Manage the daily activities of the project, ensuring the execution aligns with the project plan and timeline. • Oversee the construction and installation of data center systems, including power distribution, HVAC, cooling systems, security, and fire suppression systems. • Ensure that quality control processes are followed and that all systems are installed per specifications, codes, and industry standards. ? Commissioning & Testing: • Lead the commissioning process, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for all systems. • Manage the testing and validation of critical infrastructure systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, cooling, and fire suppression systems. • Coordinate with engineers and contractors to resolve any issues or discrepancies discovered during commissioning. ? Risk Management: • Identify and mitigate Safety, project risks, including safety hazards, schedule delays, and budget overruns. • Proactively address challenges and ensure prompt resolution to avoid disruption to the project timeline. • Develop and manage risk management plans and contingency strategies to ensure project success. ? Client & Stakeholder Management: • Act as the primary point of contact for the client and key stakeholders, ensuring effective communication throughout the project lifecycle. • Provide regular updates to senior management and clients regarding project status, timelines, budgets, and any potential delays or issues. • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering the project according to specifications and resolving any concerns promptly. ? Project Delivery & Handover: • Oversee the final stages of the project, ensuring smooth and timely handover to the operations team. • Ensure that all Safety, commissioning documentation, testing reports, and operational manuals are provided to the client at the time of handover. • Facilitate training for operational teams and ensure they are equipped to manage the data center once fully operational. ? Budget & Resource Management: • Monitor project budgets and expenditures to ensure the project is completed within financial constraints. • Manage resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to ensure efficient use throughout the project. • Prepare and manage procurement plans, contracts, and vendor relationships. ? Quality Control & Compliance: • Ensure that all work is carried out according to the highest quality standards and meets local regulations and industry codes. • Ensure all work is inspected, tested, and certified per the required standards • Conduct regular audits to verify compliance with safety, environmental, and quality policies. Key skills and requirements • At least 5 years' experience in a similar role, managing large-scale data center projects, including construction, commissioning, and delivery. • Knowledge of BMS processes including BIM experience • Experience in construction industry is required • Eleectrical system knowledge • An ability to self-manage the delivery of DC/BMS projects in line with an agreed FDS is critical to this position. • Ability to work in a team and provide guidance to less experienced staff • Experience with instrumentation implementation/integration • Knowledge of SCADA systems – Experience in Ignition/Scada platform well regarded though not compulsory • Some experience in Document Control would be well regarded • Ability to interpret and modify some drafted documents particularly for As-Built adjustments is well regarded • The candidate should be an excellent communicator and be able to present ideas clearly and effectively both internally and externally. • Competence in Bahasa Malaysia. English would also be well regarded. • Ability to resolve conflicts and manage stakeholder expectations effectively. • Be motivated and capable of the development and application of skills in new and existing technologies. • Enthusiasm and a desire for success are character traits we are seeking as is the ability to show leadership and sensible decision making when required. • Must have existing citizenship of Malaysia or work rights in Malaysia Key success factors • Communication skills; • Experience to share information • Willingness to learn and teach new skills to both colleagues and customers • Strong analytical skills. • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment and manage multiple priorities.
