POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform sustaining engineering work on existing production released designs. Uses research techniques to analyze and validate design or theoretical concepts.
Make the inputs of the work are clear, actionable and compelling [CAC] and the outputs are valuable and deliverable.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for reviewing existing production released designs to become the expert knowledge holder of functionality, and performance using existing product documentation.
- Responsible for broad technical knowledge of electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, including but not limited to
- DC section: DC circuits, AC to DC converters, AC power factor correction, high power transistors and rectifiers, LCC resonant circuit, magnetic design, DC current measurement;
- Pulsed DC and measurement sections: SMPS Switch Mode Power Supply topology, V/I sensors, inductor and transformer concepts, troubleshooting for series and parallel switch networks;
- Common requirement: digital and analog loop stability, VCO, worse case component analysis, digital hardware, firmware, test and measurement systems, and electrical/safety regulatory compliance.
- Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and manufacturing test yields of existing products using formal investigation methods and to recommend/implement corrective actions to address.
- Follows key engineering procedures including the ECO process, Copy Exact and Product Development Process.
- Responsible to identify product and process limitations and identify opportunities for product improvement.
- Accepts inputs from engineering management to respond to changing priorities derived from inputs from Product Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Global Support, Supply Chain, Quality, Technical Service Organization, and Field Application Engineering.
- Responsible to identify, and evaluate obsolete components in existing designs, select possible replacement alternatives, and to re-design circuitry as required to meet performance criteria and functional transparency to original design.
- Response to manage the tasks with method of Clear, Actionable and Compelling (CAC), and bring the visibility of the tasks to managers and requesters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Works in a standard office environment and uses general office equipment (telephone, PC, copier, fax machine, etc.).
- Works in a noisy industrial engineering/manufacturing lab environment using spectrum analyzers, sampling and real time oscilloscopes, pulse generators, voltage and current meters, power supplies, and special test fixtures.
- Works with and around High Power, High Voltage and High Current power sources, requiring safety training.
- Ability to obtain a US visa; must be able to travel up to 15% of the time. Travel may involve international and domestic travel to remote sites, customers and vendors to fulfill essential responsibilities and functions.
- Overtime may be necessary in times of increased demand.
SKILLS:
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Able to receive little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
- Ability to read and create schematic drawings using software applications (ie. PCAD, Altium).
- Skill in using enterprise resource planning tools – SAP.
EXPERIENCE:
- Familiar with ISO system.
- Strong knowledge of 6 sigma methodologies – SPC
- Component Life Cycle Analysis (ie. using Part Miner, Parts Universe, Promiere, Puma, IHS).
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Electrical safety training (additional company safety courses may be required).
