We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Public Affairs Policy Analyst.
- As a member of Group Public Affairs, the job holder will play an essential role in supporting the implementation of policy advocacy and government engagement strategies in Asia Pacific.
- The work contributes to advocacy undertaken by country CEOs and other senior executives across the region to secure public policy outcomes that reflect the bank’s commercial priorities. The role will also support development of materials to support efforts to increase the profile of senior executives, generating original ideas for policy advocacy, and helping to promote those ideas in policy fora.
- The role holder will provide support to the team on policy monitoring and research, data analysis, stakeholder mapping, multi-party meetings, event coordination and stakeholder alignment facilitation, development of key messages, talking points and briefing notes.
- The preferred candidate must be able to engage at all levels with internal and external stakeholders of the bank, prepare analysis, briefing documents, and have excellent written and communications skills in English, needing minimal direct supervision. They must also be able to facilitate discussions on challenging and fast-moving topics and have an understanding of how public policy is developed in Asian markets.
- Previous experience in government, industry association, academia, bilateral business association, or government relations for a multinational company is desirable.
Principle Responsibilities:
- This role will form part of a newly-established “hub” of regional stuff based in HSBC Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur’s offices. Colleagues in the hub will be drawn from Strategy & Governance, and Legal.
- Able to interact with internal stakeholders across businesses and functions for various meetings and events coordination, and take briefings on potential advocacy topics.
- Work with external stakeholders such as industry associations, chambers and other third-party organisations for meetings, event logistics and alignment on agenda and project management.
- Proactive tracking of public policy developments relevant to the bank and/or key clients.
- Research and data generation from various Asia-Pacific markets for senior management briefing documents and talking points.
- Monitor policy announcements and industry reactions to events relevant to topics prioritised in the Bank’s policy advocacy strategy.
Coordinate meetings and events aimed at seeking internal alignment or delivering key messages to external stakeholders.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in economics, political science, international relations, along with relevant experience in a
Financial Institution or the banking industry is desired. - Strong English writing and communications skills; proficiency in Asian languages would be an advantage.
- Good analytical and economic literacy skills.
- Prior experience in public administration, public affairs, communications or media preferred.
- Strong project management skills, attention to details, aptitude in critical thinking is required.
- Strong Excel processing and Powerpoint design and presentation skills.
