JOB SUMMARY

To provide direct comprehensive nursing care for babies as assigned. This includes supervising the nursing team during her shift, provides supportive care, collaborating with other team members/services, and navigates the total care of babies from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse shall demonstrate professional and evidence – based practices.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Comprehensive Care

1. To apply an integration of nursing theory, clinical and evidence-based practices in providing holistic care for babies/mother and their families, visitors.

2. To conduct a thorough nursing assessment of baby’s physical needs

3. To formulate, implement, and document a nursing care plans that is communicated and clarified with the baby’s parents

4. To prioritize and organize diagnostic tests and procedures if needed only

5. To demonstrate “hands on” clinical skills specific to her area of practice.

6. To ensure all babies are treated as individuals, irrespective of color or creed. Displays sensitivity to individuals’ religious and cultural practices.

7. To evaluatebabies responses to interventions in order to determine progress toward achieving expected outcomes and modifythe nursing plan of care accordingly.

8. To provide a comprehensive report when transferring accountability of a baby’s care to another nurse and/or facility.

9. To document mother and baby history, physical examination data, nursing care plan and interventions and the baby’s responses in the medical record in a timely manner following nursing standard operating procedures (SOP).

10. To be accountable for professional actions of the team during the span of duty.

Supportive Care

1. To establish a caring and therapeutic relationship with parents and baby, demonstrating trust, respect and honesty.

2. To demonstrate excellent communication skills during all phases of the therapeutic relationship.

3. To create a positive environment by listening and offering support and maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Professional Practice

Nurses are accountable for their own decision-making and actions and maintaining competence to facilitate the best possible outcomes for baby and mother

1. To participate in professional and specialty nursing organizations.

2. To support development of and participate in clinical relevant project work.

3. To advocate for and support the development, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives (Policy & procedures changes, standards, protocols, and medical directives).

4. To engage in self-appraisal by being proactive and innovative in meeting own learning needs based on client population and changes in practice.

5. To perform the reflective practice, which includes the required capacities of self-awareness, self-knowledge, empathy, awareness of boundaries and maximum scope of the professional role.

6. To engage in reflective practice by maintaining knowledge and skills that will enhance / advance her professional nursing practice.

7. To be a role model for excellent nursing practice through demonstration of expertise.

8. To act as a resource to individuals and groups within the center and community agencies to improve care and nursing practice

9. To act as a mentor to staff / co-workers, providing them written or verbal feedback as necessary.

10. To recognize ethical dilemmas and works through them using resources and logical approach

11. To demonstrate ethical behavior (ie. honesty, integrity).

12. To recognize when own values and beliefs conflict with the client’s and be able to demonstrate conflict resolution skills.

Evidence – Based Practice (EBP)

EBP is the conscientious use of current best evidence from health care research in making decisions about the health care of clients. The nurse participates in evidence-based practice in order to facilitate the best possible outcomes for clients.

1. To demonstrate knowledge relevant to her professional practice by providing theoretical or scientific physiological and or psychosocial rationale.

2. To apply her current knowledge base and critical thinking skills to comprehensively identify knowledge gaps and practice issues which demonstrates an understanding of and engagement.

Assisting Unit Management Duties

1. To assist in Risk and Quality activities of the unit to enhance controls.

2. To assist in guiding and mentoring the junior nurses including new nursing staffs

** To perform other related duties as assigned by superior.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: RM2,000.00 - RM3,500.00 per month
