JOB DESCRIPTION – SOURCING ENGINEER The Sourcing Engineer will support both the new product development and strategic procurement departments. Initiatives will be focused on preparing cost estimates for new products, evaluating cost savings opportunities, conducting make vs. buy studies, and compiling itemized bill of materials for product launches. Responsibilities i. Assess design concepts for preliminary cost, profitability, and manufacturability. ii. Analyze drawings, models, and 3D data for manufacturability feedback and cost estimation. iii. Prepare and facilitate requests for quotation and complete bid analysis for new product / programs aligned with Step2 sourcing strategies. iv. Develop comprehensive “Should Cost” models for various products utilizing industry benchmarks, market analysis, and cost breakdown structures. v. Identify and implement pre-launch cost avoidance opportunities. vi. Evaluate design concepts for opportunity to utilize common inventory and leverage economies of scale. vii. Support preliminary capacity studies to drive unconstrained sales growth at launch stage. viii. Engage a cross functional mindset of designing to cost versus the cost of the design to maximize margin. ix. Develop initial product bills of material, routings, and completes cost / benefit analysis to support the selection of products to bring to the market. x. Support creation of business cases, capital budget requisitions, and preliminary program schedules. xi. Assist in preparing cost data for proposals and contract negotiations. xii. Support ideation and feasibility studies on Procurement cost savings programs. xiii. Provide technical support and guidance to suppliers to resolve quality issues, improve manufacturing processes, and drive product innovation. xiv. Monitor supplier performance metrics and KPI’s, tracking key indicators such as on-time delivery, quality defects, and lead times to drive performance improvement and mitigate supply chain risks. xv. Other tasks and projects assigned as needed.
