Job Summary:
The Kitchen Commis is responsible for assisting in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring smooth kitchen operations. This role requires a commitment to quality, efficiency, and learning while supporting the kitchen team in delivering high standards of food service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation:
- Assist in preparing ingredients (e.g., washing, chopping, peeling) as directed by senior chefs.
- Follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Ensure timely preparation and delivery of dishes.
- Kitchen Maintenance:
- Keep kitchen areas clean and organized at all times.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained regularly.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards.
- Support to Senior Staff:
- Assist the Chef de Partie and other team members in various kitchen tasks.
- Respond promptly to instructions during service hours.
- Learning and Development:
- Participate in training programs and skill-building opportunities.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn and take on more responsibility.
- Stock Management:
- Help in organizing and storing ingredients and supplies.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or spoilage.
Requirements:
- Experience: Previous kitchen experience is preferred but not essential.
- Skills:
- Basic understanding of food preparation and cooking techniques.
- Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
- Education: A culinary certificate or equivalent training is an advantage.
