MACHINIST

Set up and operate machines: Machinists use manual, automatic, and CNC machines to turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind parts. They also program the machines. Read drawings: Machinists read blueprints, sketches, and computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) files to understand the specifications for the parts they are making. Measure and mark materials: Machinists measure and mark raw materials for cutting or shaping. Inspect and test: Machinists inspect and test finished products to ensure they meet requirements. They also maintain production and quality logs. Maintain equipment: Machinists maintain, repair, and calibrate precision measuring instruments and other equipment. Plan and monitor: Machinists plan the sequence of tasks to complete a job, and monitor production. They adjust feed and other settings as needed. Follow safety rules: Machinists follow safety rules and maintain a safe and clean workstation.
