actively assisting the Unit’s Nursing Supervisor in the day-to-day running of all operational matters. RESPONSIBILITIES 1.0 RESPONSIBILITIES & ADMINISTRATION • To coordinate and be responsible for the smooth running of the Unit in the absence of the Nursing Supervisor. • To ensure the implementation of safe nursing care via on going supervision and involvement in administrative duties. • Demonstrate leadership and management skills via coaching of staff, orientation of new staff with an emphasis on team spirit. • To ensure and have a good working knowledge of all statutory requirements of the Nursing Board of Malaysia and any other legislation related to her/his work. • To ensure compliance with established departmental/unit policies and procedures, continuous quality improvement objectives, environmental safety and infection control standards in line the Organisation’s Vision, Mission and Core Values. • To ensure the provision and maintenance of a hazard-free working environment in terms of infections and accidents for both patients and others 2.0 COMMUNICATION & LIAISON • To establish and maintain good and effective interpersonal relationship with patients and their relatives and other inter-disciplinary team members for the achievement of excellent patient treatment outcome. • To provide education to patients and their families, staff and the community for continuous improvement in healthcare services • Attend unit meeting and ensure update of own self in ward changes / practice changes 3.0 EDUCATION & PROFESSIONALISM • To ensure the dignity and rights of patients are not infringed upon by other members of the Hospital staff and to maintain confidentiality at all times. • Documents / dictates patient history, physical examination data, nursing care plan and interventions and the patient’s responses in patient record in a timely manner in accordance with nursing standard operating procedures (SOP) • To actively participate and lead in continuous nursing education programmes and to ensure continuous enhancement of knowledge for ongoing personal and professional development. 4.0 OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES • To take on additional roles (clinical, continuous nursing education [CNEs] and/or administrative) as a senior person in the Unit. • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager, Area Nurse Manager, Director of Nursing. 5.0 SAFETY • Ensure patients’ dignity and rights are not infringed upon. • Ensure confidentiality of patients’ records. • Act as the advocate of patients at times when it may be prudent to do so. • Wear employee identification badge while on duty. • Demonstrate appropriate use of Hospital Incident Reports. • Assist in the provision and maintenance of an optimal environment protecting patients and others from dangers of infection, accidents and other hazards • Demonstrate adherence to Unit/Hospital safety standards in relation to: a) infection control b) fire drill activities c) equipment maintenance d) smoking e) hazardous waste g) traffic control h) restraints i) transport safety policies
